LAS VEGAS — Last year, Caesars announced that The Cromwell would be transformed into The Vanderpump Hotel (and casino) this year. At the time, details were scarce other than the fact that the property would reopen under the Vanderpump name this year.
Now, new information about the rebrand and remodel is slowly emerging, and a loose timeline is beginning to take shape. The Five Hundy By Midnight podcast recently uncovered sketches submitted to Clark County that show modest exterior name changes.
The Cromwell is no longer accepting hotel reservations from Feb. 15 through April 12, suggesting that renovations will be happening during this period. It is unlikely that the casino or its restaurants will close during renovations, but Caesars has not commented on either at this time.
Las Vegas casino operators have taken varying approaches when remodeling existing properties. MGM Resorts kept Monte Carlo open for nearly two years as they reimagined the property into Park MGM, while Hard Rock Las Vegas closed entirely before reopening as Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. In more recent news, The Mirage has been closed to make way for the new Hard Rock’s massive guitar hotel.
Lisa Vanderpump, best known for her television career, already operates three Las Vegas restaurants: Vanderpump Cocktail Garden at Caesars Palace, Pinky’s by Vanderpump at Flamingo and Vanderpump à Paris at Paris Las Vegas. She previously told Las Vegas Weekly that the hotel opening will be her “greatest achievement.”
The initial announcement promised a blend of sexy elegance and comfort, featuring signature Vanderpump Alain furnishings and custom lighting. That design aesthetic is already on display next door at Pinky’s by Vanderpump.
It will be a notable change when The Cromwell’s fez-style light fixtures on the casino floor are eventually replaced by ornate glass chandeliers and Victorian-inspired rustic furnishings similar to those at Vanderpump à Paris.
Vanderpump said the renovations will begin at the east end of the property near the valet entrance, the area farthest from the Las Vegas Strip and away from the casino floor.
“We’re gonna start with one bar,” she said to the Las Vegas Weekly. "I’m not allowed to say which bar, and then we’re gonna do the lobby. We’re gonna just Vanderpump it.”
There are only two bars at The Cromwell: Bound, located near the hotel front desk, and Interlude, positioned in the center of the casino. Refreshing Bound while updating the hotel lobby would be the logical first step.
Giada is currently the only full-service restaurant at The Cromwell, where reservations still remain available on OpenTable while hotel bookings are paused. Caesars has not confirmed whether the restaurant will close during renovations, but Vanderpump has hinted at future restaurant changes that will “definitely have the kind of humor” that her other venues have.
Last year, Drai's moved operations of its rooftop club back down to its original basement location. The new dayclub-nightclub concept is expected to open this summer under a new brand.
While The Cromwell’s guest rooms remain attractive to visitors, their Persian-inspired design introduced in 2014 is showing its age. Furnishings in particular have shown visible wear in recent years.
Vanderpump has described her vision for the hotel as offering “attainable luxury” rooms. Currently, The Cromwell has some of the highest room rates among Caesars’ Las Vegas properties.
It would be surprising if such a significant upgrade did not lead to even higher rates. Caesars executives have repeatedly highlighted substantial room-rate increases at Paris Las Vegas following the opening of the Versailles Tower, which was formerly part of Horseshoe Las Vegas.
More details on the rebranding of The Cromwell to Vanderpump Hotel are expected in the coming weeks as Caesars begins to release information on phases of the renovation and the subsequent reopening timeline.
