No, You Can't Gamble on Uno -- but Monopoly, Yahtzee, and Battleship Will Invade Casinos Soon

Three board games are being made into casino table games. Despite erroneous reports spreading across social media, none of those games will be UNO.

Hasbro, the toy and board game company, recently signed a slew of deals to bring more of its most popular brands to casinos. One of those deals, with Galaxy Gaming, will introduce table games based on three classic brands next year:

  • Monopoly
  • Yahtzee
  • Battleship

Hasbro also announced a slot machine deal with Aristocrat, the company behind slots like Buffalo and Dragon Link, to take over the Monopoly brand for slots from Light & Wonder.

Neither company has shared specific details about the new table games and slots. The games will be revealed at the Global Gaming Expo, or G2E, in October at The Venetian Expo.

Like last year, we’ll be on hand to see the games expected to hit casino floors soon. We’ll also keep tabs on what industry executives are talking about so you know what to expect when visiting the casino.

Galaxy Table Game Makeovers Could Target Casual Players

Galaxy Gaming develops and distributes casino table games and tech. The company creates table games, electronic table game (ETG) software, side bets for existing games, and technology like progressive jackpots.

EZ Baccarat and High Card Flush are two of the more well-known table games. However, the gambling products players might know most are the 21+3 and Lucky Ladies blackjack side bets.

Craps players might be familiar with Galaxy from its All/Tall/Small bets. While its ETG games might not be as well known, players may have seen a variety of games and sidebets in the larger stadium installations.

What to Expect from the New Table Games

Galaxy hasn’t revealed how it will incorporate Battleship, Monopoly and Yahtzee into table games. However, it teased the upcoming titles in a press release, saying:

“Casino patrons will soon enjoy the familiar rush of MONOPOLY, the suspense of rolling dice in YAHTZEE, and the explosive thrill of BATTLESHIP, all reimagined for the table games pit.”

These brands could be used to create new casino games, variations of existing games, side bets for existing games or something entirely new. The deal follows conversations during last year’s G2E about bringing more “amusement-style” games to casino floors.

Interblock’s Marble Run has yet to debut in casinos, but it’s expected to launch this summer. Some of the smaller-sized games from Interblock, like new versions of roulette, are available at casinos in Las Vegas and throughout the country.

Galaxy licensing these well-known brands for table games continues the evolution of the casino floor. Like the amusement-style concepts introduced at G2E, these games are likely to appeal to casual players who may be intimidated by traditional table games but are drawn in by familiar names.

Who Will Do It Better … AI or Galaxy?

The Galaxy announcement about the new table games is full of mambo jumbo that says nothing useful. For example:

“This new deal is a testament to Galaxy’s singular focus on table games and our commitment to enhancing the base games players know and love, with innovative new game play experiences. MONOPOLY, YAHTZEE, and BATTLESHIP have thrilled generations of players, and we look forward to translating the fun and excitement of these games into new and entertaining casino experiences.”

To be fair, most initial press releases from gaming companies have little to no information. The deals are often announced before the games are created. The Aristocrat announcement has no information for the Monopoly slot game.

Since there are no details on the games, I decided to experiment with AI to see if it could come up with some ideas based on Galaxy’s current product line. Frankly, it’s a little too accurate:

  • MONOPOLY Roulette – Adds a MONOPOLY-style bonus round or payout mechanic to standard roulette. Players can place an optional $1 Monopoly Bonus Bet. If the ball lands on a specific color/number combo (e.g., red odd), a “Chance” card is drawn from a digital display. Chance card offers a Monopoly-style event:
    • “Advance to Boardwalk” = 100:1 payout
    • “Go to Jail” = lose the bonus
    • “Free Parking” = re-spin with a doubled bet
    • “Collect $200” = 10:1 payout

  • YAHTZEE Roll to Riches – dice-based game that mimics the spirit of YAHTZEE. Players roll 5 dice (or bet on the dealer rolling). Basic bet wins on any poker-style combination (3-of-a-kind, small straight, full house, etc.).
    • Side bet or progressive pays on YAHTZEE (5 of a kind) with huge odds—say 500:1.
  • BATTLESHIP Battle Dice – likely a combat-themed dice game with betting layers. Each player places a wager and selects a “ship” (Carrier, Battleship, Cruiser, etc.) with a risk/reward profile. The dealer rolls dice to simulate “shots” at ships. If your ship gets hit a certain number of times, you lose; if it survives, you win.
    • “Direct Hit” wager pays 25:1 if your ship is hit exactly once (or something similarly unlikely).
    • Could add a progressive jackpot for sinking the entire enemy fleet (e.g., dealer rolls five “splash” icons).

AI did a surprisingly good job of creating games that reflect each part of Galaxy Gaming’s product line. There’s an original game for two of the brands, a variation of an existing game, and a set of side bets.

Each of these concepts could also be developed into an ETG for players who prefer interacting with a machine over a dealer.

While none of these games are likely to be what we actually see in casinos next year, it’s fascinating that anyone can now access technology capable of producing such realistic casino game ideas.

UNO Social Club at Palms

No, you cannot gamble playing UNO in Las Vegas. You might play Uno at a gaming bar during happy hour, but that’s another story.

In May, Mattel launched UNO Social Club, which is referred to as “the ultimate game night destination” in a press release. The Social Clubs sound sweet for fans of the popular game.

Ray Adler, vice president and global head of games at Mattel, explained the purpose of this promotion:

“We created UNO Social Clubs to reimagine what game night can be -- bringing people together for real-world fun, connection, and a bit of friendly competition.”

The marketing program, which ended June 19, invited fans to enter a contest for a chance to win an Uno Social Club getaway at Palms by using an UNO TikTok filter. The winner will stay in an Uno-themed suite decorated with game-inspired decor and a private bowling alley.

The suite also features numerous games, including Uno Golf, Uno Teams and more. There’s no gambling involved, and Uno Social Clubs will appear across the country later this year.
