An investigation is underway after two New York City residents were found dead on November 23 in a hotel room at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City.

The two individuals were identified as Wei Guo Liang, 68, of Brooklyn, and Baoyi Bowie Zheng, 36, of Staten Island, according to the Atlantic Country Prosecutor's Office.

Prosecutors Not Speculating on Manner of Deaths

The Atlantic City Police Department responded to a call at approximately 4:55 pm on Sunday, where both bodies were found in the room. According to prosecutors, Zheng’s death was caused by a broken neck, while Liang’s cause of death was determined to be self-inflicted stab wounds.

While the nature of the deaths has raised questions about the possibility of a murder-suicide, officials aren’t yet speculating on what happened to the two individuals.

“Until an investigation is complete, our office always keeps an open mind and follows the evidence in trying to determine the manner of death,” the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office told New Jersey 101.5

The office's Major Crimes Unit is currently working with police to investigate the incident.

Casinos Have Been Hosts to Shocking Murders

The Borgata is the largest casino resort in Atlantic City, regularly leading the city’s nine casinos in revenue by a wide margin. However, even the world’s largest and most luxurious casinos have sometimes been the scenes of horrifying crimes.

In August 2024, a couple was arrested in Macau in connection to the murder of a man at the Wynn Palace resort in Cotai. Earlier in 2025, a shooting at the Aliante Casino in North Las Vegas resulted in the death of the son of a former Nevada state senator.

Atlantic City casinos are no strangers to violent crimes, either. In September 2022, the body of Brian Wilkinson was found in a hotel room at the Ocean Casino Resort. In 2024, former MMA fighter Andrew Osborne was sentenced to 25 years in state prison for the crime after pleading guilty to first-degree aggravated manslaughter in the killing.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident at the Borgata to call the Major Crime Unit at (609) 909-7666, or to contact the prosecutor’s office at its website, ACPO.org
