LAS VEGAS — February is typically a quieter month on the Las Vegas sports calendar, with the NFL season over and a lighter home schedule for the Golden Knights.
The biggest sporting event this month isn’t even taking place in Las Vegas. Even though legal sports betting is now available across the country, more money is wagered on the Super Bowl than on any other single sporting event in Las Vegas.
As usual, there is one major combat sports event on the calendar. Most of the other competitions this month fall into the category of alternative sports, with limited to no betting options available.
The NHL schedule slows down for much of the month as players participate in the Winter Olympics. That limits the Golden Knights’ schedule to five games in February, including two at T-Mobile Arena:
Lookahead: The Golden Knights have nine games next month.
The Winter Olympics run from Feb. 6-22. This year, the games are being held in Italy, which is nine hours ahead of Las Vegas.
While the Olympics draw global attention, they are not typically a major focus for sports bettors. The time difference makes it even more difficult for fans who prefer to wait until an event begins before placing a wager.
The games will likely be shown in the sportsbooks, but some events won’t have odds due to a lack of customer interest or bookmaker knowledge.
As a result, there are no major watch events planned in advance around Las Vegas.
The biggest sports weekend in Las Vegas still revolves around a game being played elsewhere. The Super Bowl has been popular for years, even before sports betting was legalized nationwide. That hasn’t changed, even though fans can now watch and wager on the Big Game from home or at local bars.
There is still something about watching the biggest game of the year with massive crowds that keeps the weekend in the spotlight. Having said that, don’t wait until game day to bet. The lines can be huge since many in the sportsbooks are tourists without a Nevada sports betting app.
The watch parties for the Big Game range from free events to packages costing more than $25,000 for a group.
