Casinos in Mississippi generated just over $189 million in January, a 1.9% year-on-year increase from the $185.4 million generated in 2025.

Of the total slots generated $154.5 million, rising 1.6% year-on-year from $152.1 million, while table games revenue saw a double-digit increase of 13.5% from just over $24 million to $27.3 million. Retail sports wagering declined 19.8% year-on-year, dropping from $5.1 million to $4.1 million.

While retail sports betting revenue wasn’t as successful as other verticals in January, lawmakers are still looking to legalize online sports betting, with the House passing legislation for the third consecutive year.

Coastal Region Pulls Revenues Up as Other Regions Face Losses

According to the latest report from the Mississippi Gaming Commission, which reports casino revenue by region rather than by casino, one region reported year-on-year revenue growth, while the other two reported declines.

The state’s Coastal Region reported the only year-on-year revenue rise in January, generating $131.2 million, up 8.1% from $121.4 million the previous year. Slot revenue in the region reached $107.4 million, up 7.2% from $100.2 million the year prior. Additionally, table games saw revenue rise by double digits, from $17.2 million to $20.6 million, a 19.7% increase.

Revenue fell for the Central region in January, declining 3% year-on-year from $25.1 million to $24.3 million. While slot revenue fell by 3.8% from $21.7 million to $20.9 million, table games saw the most significant rise in the state, increasing by 26.7% year-on-year from $1.6 million to just under $2 million.

Both table games and slots also saw double-digit declines, with slots falling 13.2% from $30.2 million to $26.2 million, while table games fell 10.8% from $5.2 million to $4.7 million.

Mississippi Online Gambling Bill Heads to the Senate

For the third year in a row, the Mississippi House has voted in favor of legalizing online sports betting, with House Bill 1581 receiving an 85-31 vote earlier this month. However, in the past, the bills have subsequently died in the Senate.

The latest attempt, introduced by Representative Casey Eure in January, went under amendments before being presented to the House.

The latest amendments would put operators on a sliding tax scale and provide a $6 million annual fund for land-based casinos for the first five years that the state offers sports wagering, to compensate the venues if their revenue is impacted by online sports wagering.

Additionally, remaining tax revenue would be used to fund the state's Public Employees Retirement System. The Mississippi pension fund could also get a boost from the amendment, which proposes that the Mississippi Capital Expense Fund make a one-time $600 million transfer to the pension system.

Last year, a similar bill proposed that tax revenue would go towards roads and bridges, with Eure hoping to win over opponents in the past.

The full Senate will now have until March 11 to vote on the bill before it dies in the committee or on the calendar.
