Mississippi is one of the more relaxed states when it comes to gambling legislation. The 1990 Mississippi Gaming Control Act approved casino gambling across the Mississippi River and on the Gulf Coast, basically leaving the door open to any operators who wanted a piece of the pie.
Right now, there are 30 commercial casinos managed by some of the biggest casino owners in the industry, as well as three tribal owned casinos too. Let’s just say, you’re pretty much spoilt for choice.
Initially all casinos in Mississippi had to be built over water but after Hurricane Katrina forced casino barges onto land in 2005 causing chaos, the law changed to allow casinos to develop a short distance on shore.
