Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Biloxi has one of the more dramatic origin stories of any casino on the Gulf Coast. The property was built in 2005 and scheduled to open on September 1 of that year. Days before the doors opened, Hurricane Katrina hit.
The storm surge destroyed the casino barges, took out the pool area entirely, and left the building badly damaged. A legal dispute between the owner and bondholders added further delay to the rebuild, and the casino finally opened to the public on June 30, 2007, nearly two years later than planned.
One detail from the aftermath has become part of the property's folklore: in the cleanup operation following the storm, a member of staff spotted what he thought was a Boy Scout uniform floating in the Mississippi Sound. It turned out to be Elvis Presley's Army uniform, which had been part of the casino's memorabilia collection. Someone cast a fishing pole hooked it, and reeled it in. It now hangs in the high-limit room. If a casino's character is shaped by its history, the story of that Elvis uniform tells you everything you need to know about Hard Rock Biloxi.
The property sits at 777 Beach Boulevard, directly next to the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino, and operates under a franchise from Hard Rock International. It is owned by Gaming and Leisure Properties and operated by Bally's Corporation.
Let's take a much closer look.
The property sits on US-90 between the Beau Rivage and the Ohr-O'Keefe Museum of Art, right on the Gulf waterfront. Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport is about 25 minutes away. New Orleans is roughly an hour west on I-10 and US-90. Mobile, Alabama is about an hour to the east. Interstate 10 is just a few minutes' drive from the hotel, making it an easy stop whether you're arriving from east or west along the Gulf Coast.
A $15 daily resort fee applies to hotel guests, but it covers both parking and WiFi for your stay, valet included, which takes some of the sting out of it. One big plus is that Hard Rock Biloxi is within easy walking distance of the Beau Rivage next door, and public beach access is only about a ten-minute walk away.
The 50,000 square foot casino floor is open 24 hours, and I think we can all agree that is the way it always should be? Smoking is permitted on the main floor, which is a bit annoying (for a non-smoker), but the Platinum Tower hotel is entirely non-smoking, so if you want to stay in a smoke-free room while still having full casino access, the Platinum Tower is the choice to make.
The Bally Bet Sportsbook handles sports wagering with 30-plus large flat-screen TVs covering betting odds and a full range of sports programming.
One quirky aside worth knowing: the Robo Bar on the casino floor is an automated robotic cocktail arm that draws a crowd when it's operating. It’s a little similar to the Tipsy Robot cocktail maker at Venetian and Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.
Sadly, there is no poker room, having closed in 2016.
55 table games give you plenty to work with, covering the full Mississippi casino range:
It’s all to a very nice standard, and that may be driven by the fact it has to try to compete with Beau Rivage next door. The felt is in good condition, as are the chairs, and the waitress service at the tables is definitely on point.
There are over 1,300 slot machines with a solid mix of the latest popular releases alongside established favorites. I have found that, in 2026 at least, the days of striking variety between slot choices in casinos are fast disappearing. It’s all largely standardized now given the sheer volume of great games providers like Aristocrat, Light & Wonder, and IGT are churning out, so it’s actually very hard for casinos to mess things up.
Hard Rock Rewards, operating as Unity by Hard Rock across the brand's global portfolio, earns points on all tracked gaming play across Hard Rock Hotel and Casino properties worldwide.
Points convert toward freeplay, hotel stays, dining, and entertainment benefits. The program integrates with the wider Hard Rock network spanning dozens of properties internationally, making it a useful program for regular Hard Rock visitors who travel beyond the Gulf Coast.
One point I’d like to emphasize here is that Unity is about to gain a Las Vegas property too. Hard Rock has been working away extensively renovating what used to be The Mirage, and it is expected to open some time in 2027. So, I’d say it was a pretty good time to start earning some Unity points if you can.
The 479 rooms and suites at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Biloxi are split between two towers with different characteristics. The Platinum Tower, which opened in 2014 and is the newer of the two, has 154 rooms and is entirely non-smoking throughout. The Royal Tower has 325 rooms with some designated smoking options available.
Every floor at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Biloxi is themed to a specific musical artist. It sounds gimmicky until you're actually standing in the corridor and realizing that someone has put genuine thought into it.
Rooms come with the brand's Sleep Like a Rock bedding, iHome docking stations, flat-screen TVs, multi-head showers, and Bose entertainment systems. The Sound of Your Stay program is one of the more unusual hotel perks you'll encounter anywhere: complimentary use of a Fender Guitar during your stay, plus access to playlists curated by the hotel's in-house music experts. Whether you're a player or just want to strum something quietly on the balcony, it's a fun touch.
It is, genuinely, a fun place to stay. Casino resort hotels can all end up a bit ‘samey,’ but you have to love the way Hard Rock tries to make it a more unique experience.
Pets are welcome: dogs and cats under 25 pounds pay a $75 non-refundable fee, and one large dog up to 100 pounds is accommodated for $150.
Hard Rock Biloxi has one of the wider restaurant rosters on the Gulf Coast strip, covering everything from a proper steakhouse to poolside tacos.
| Restaurant | Type | General Price |
|---|---|---|
| Ruth's Chris Steak House | Upscale chain steakhouse, USDA Prime beef, signature sizzling butter presentation | $$$ |
| Half Shell Oyster House | Gulf Coast seafood, fresh oysters, voodoo shrimp po'boy, local favourites | $ |
| Macau Kitchen | Pan-Asian cuisine, authentic flavours, Gulf Coast's newest Asian hot spot | $ |
| Sugar Factory American Brasserie | American comfort food with theatrical presentation, famous for over-the-top sweets and Instagrammable desserts | $ |
| Hard Rock Cafe | Classic American burgers, rock memorabilia dining room, Legendary Burger menu | $ |
| Tequila's on the Gulf | Poolside Mexican cuisine, Sound Bar, private cabanas | $ |
| Pie Five Pizza Co. | Custom personal pizzas made in five minutes, quick service | $ |
| Bally Bet Sportsbook and Bar | Sports bar adjacent to sportsbook, casual dining and drinks | $ |
| 24/7 Grille | Around-the-clock casual dining | $ |
| Ben and Jerry's | Ice cream, desserts | $ |
| Dunkin' Donuts | Coffee, quick bites | $ |
Ruth's Chris and Half Shell Oyster House are the dining attractions worth planning around, I’d say. Ruth's Chris delivers what it always delivers: USDA Prime beef arriving on a sizzling plate with enough butter to give a cardiologist pause, which is exactly what you want from it.
Half Shell, meanwhile, is the more locally rooted option. It’s Gulf Coast seafood done with genuine care and the kind of voodoo shrimp po'boy that reminds you exactly where you are.
Sugar Factory is worth a look too, especially if you have a sweet tooth and any appreciation for the absurd. The dessert presentations are theatrical to the point of spectacle and the place has a devoted following for a reason. I love Sugar Factory. It’s bizarre and requires a little temporary rewiring of your brain to truly enjoy it, but it’s definitely a great experience.
The pool at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Biloxi is one of the best on the Gulf Coast strip and was modeled after the pool at the Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas. And, for those who don’t know, that pool was the stuff of legend. (Note: it’s Virgin Las Vegas now)
At 7,000 square feet with a beach entry, a swim-up SoundBar, over a dozen outdoor cabanas, a round spa, and two smaller hot tubs, it's the kind of pool that justifies an entire afternoon. Tequila's on the Gulf handles poolside food and drinks so you really don't need to leave. Hours are 8am to 10pm.
The Rock Spa and Salon covers all the standard treatments including massages, facials, body wraps, nail care, waxing, and hair services. The wet facilities include an aroma steam room, dry saunas, hot tubs, and cold plunge pools in dedicated relaxation lounges for men and women separately.
Hard Rock Live is the property's concert venue and at 9,000 square feet with a capacity of up to 2,000 it handles headline touring acts on a regular basis. The music-forward identity of the brand means the calendar is worth a look before you finalize your trip dates.
Beyond the main venue there are several other entertainment spaces within the property. iLov305 is the cigar lounge and bar and Boogie Nights is the weekend disco. It’s a fun line-up of stuff to check out while getting drunk.
Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Biloxi is Beau Rivage's closest neighbour on Beach Boulevard and its clearest alternative for a different type of guest. Where Beau Rivage leans into refined Southern luxury with a Mediterranean feel, Hard Rock leans into music, energy, and a party atmosphere with a rock and roll edge.
The casino is smaller, the room count is lower and the dining is less ambitious at the top end. However, the pool is excellent, Ruth's Chris and Half Shell deliver, Hard Rock Live books serious acts, the Sound of Your Stay programme is genuinely fun, and the memorabilia throughout the property gives it a personality that no amount of marble flooring can manufacture.
The Katrina story, and particularly the tale of Elvis's Army uniform being fished out of the Mississippi Sound and making it back onto the wall, is the kind of thing that sticks with you as well. It's a casino with an authentic backstory, and that counts for something, or at least it should.
