LAS VEGAS — Australians who want to visit Las Vegas can now significantly shorten their travel time. On Thursday, Qantas Airlines announced the first nonstop seasonal flight service between Sydney and Vegas (QF55), which will operate three days a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays) starting on Dec. 29 and running at least through March 12, 2027.
Las Vegas will become the 101st destination overall for Qantas and the eighth city in North and South America.
The 7,720-mile flight will be the longest non-stop flight to or from Las Vegas.
Aussies will be able to cut up to five hours in travel time between Sydney and Vegas, making it easier to attend some of the biggest conferences in the United States, such as the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC). This in turn will positively impact Las Vegas hotels and casinos where visitors will stay and play.
“Australia has consistently ranked as our second-largest overseas market and our top international market without a nonstop flight,” said Steve Hill, President and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. “More than 250,000 Australians visit each year, drawn by the breadth and depth of experiences Las Vegas offers.”
This announcement comes at a time when international traffic to Las Vegas has dropped precipitously. One of the most severe declines in visitation has come from Canada, Las Vegas's number-one provider of foreign tourists, which fell nearly 24% in 2025 compared to 2024.
Flights from Australia are scheduled to depart Sydney at 9 p.m. local time and arrive in Las Vegas at 3:55 p.m., for a total travel time of approximately 13 hours and 55 minutes. The cost of the round-trip economy airfare starts at AUD$1,099, which translates to USD$700-$800.
This weekend, the Rugby League in Las Vegas will play games at Allegiant Stadium for the third straight year. The league will return in 2027 and 2028 to complete the current five-year deal, meaning participating teams and their fans will be able to take advantage of this new Qantas opportunity to get to Sin City faster than ever before.
Last year, The Daily Telegraph in Australia reported that the number of chartered flights from Qantas required solely for the National Rugby League (NRL) more than doubled between 2025 and 2026. That really says all you need to know about how critical the first non-stop service is.
Qantas noted in its press release that the Vegas matches officially kicking off the NRL season have “quickly become a flagship event for Australian and international sports fans.” In other words, the airline recognized the need for non-stop flight service to Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) and finally made it happen.
