Seminole Hard Rock Tampa Expands Non-Smoking Gaming Areas Amid Major Renovations

TAMPA, Florida -- One of the most popular gaming destinations in the Tampa Bay area is pulling off a major renovation without shutting down any slot machines. The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino is undergoing several renovations that will significantly add to its non-smoking gaming options.

The property, recently named the Luckiest Casino in the U.S. is undergoing one of its biggest changes yet. Before this expansion, a $65 million resort enhancement in 2025 renovated 240 hotel rooms, reopened the Fresh Harvest Buffet, and added nearly 350 slot machines.

This time, the focus is on air quality: once complete, smoke-free areas will cover around 40% of all slot machines on the property.

What’s the toughest part of this? Seminole Hard Rock Tampa plans to carry out this work without interrupting its normal gaming operations. The property will turn its own concert venue into a temporary casino while crews rip out and replace carpet and ceilings on the main gaming floor.

One way to ensure the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa can continue with “business as usual” is to introduce a new gaming area to the property. There will be a temporary gaming space inside the Hard Rock Event Center, where people previously just came for concerts, but now will also be for slots.

“We are committed to providing our guests with more choices, greater comfort, and even more ways to play,” said Travis Lunn, President of Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa. “The temporary casino inside Hard Rock Event Center will allow guests to continue enjoying a wide variety of gaming options while this incredible transformation takes place.”

That temporary space, opening in late September, will bring plenty of options for Hard Rock slot players. A total of 682 new slot machines are being installed there, including popular titles like Dragon Link, Lightning 10 Year Storm, Phoenix Link, Railroad Riches, Monopoly, and Thunder Empire.

Alongside the slots, 34 table games are being relocated to the Event Center, including roulette, blackjack, Ultimate Texas Hold’em, Three Card Poker, and others.

Ongoing Slots Expansion

Separately, the resort has added 243 slot machines to the existing casino floor to help maintain a wide range of gaming options during the transition. This will bring the total number of slot machines on the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa property to 6,185 once the temporary casino opens.

The adjustments on the Tampa gaming floor are intended to expand non-smoking options in the main casino areas. All affected areas will have previously smoke-tainted amenities removed and replaced, including the Elvis Presley golden piano display, the Cipresso restaurant, the hotel lobby, and the L Bar. Carpets, chairs, gaming table felts, and ceiling treatments are all coming down to be replaced with new smoke-free accouterments.

Concerts and Events Shut Down Momentarily

The tradeoff of this progress is that the Event Center will be shut down while the temporary gaming area operates there. The venue, a 1,500-person theater that’s hosted an array of concerts, comedy shows, and casino events, is an integral part of the overall casino experience at the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa.

Two major shows have been moved because of the renovations. Rock band O.A.R. was set to perform at the Event Center on Nov. 12, but ended up being relocated to the BayCare Sound, an outdoor amphitheater in Clearwater, Florida.

The second show is a concert that was already delayed from 2025. Sting, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and former member of The Police, had to postpone his show last year due to illness, so the concert was rescheduled to Nov. 24 of this year. With the Event Center unavailable, the Sting show has again been moved to Hard Rock Live in Orlando, Florida, on the same date.

No firm timetable has been announced for when the new amenities will be available or when the Event Center will return to normal operations. The venue’s own event page lists comedian Matt Mathews as reopening the space with a show on March 4, 2027, but renovations to the main casino floor are expected to be completed well before then.
