LAS VEGAS – Another day, another million-dollar Vegas slot machine jackpot. Last week, a player won a Grand Jackpot on Dragon Link for just over $5 million at Aria.
The player won $5,066,400.83, which includes $3,300 from the 15 orbs collected. The Grand Jackpot on these linked progressives starts at $5 million and has only grown by $63,100.83 since July. This is the first time a player had won the full prize since Aristocrat Gaming’s $5 million Link machines debuted at several of MGM's properties in July.
“This is exactly the kind of moment we envisioned when we introduced the $5 million links," said Craig Toner, CEO of Aristocrat Gaming. "A jackpot of this magnitude underscores the excitement and potential of these premium experiences. We’re thrilled to see the very first $5 million win happen here at Aria.”
According to MGM Resorts, the anonymous Aria winner, who was also a Las Vegas local, “captured the historic grand prize on a $1 machine, having made only a $50 bet.” Only a $50 bet. No big deal.
Outside of Aria, these $5 million high-limit games are available at Aria, Bellagio, The Cosmopolitan and Fontainebleau. It’s one of the largest Las Vegas slot jackpots that didn’t come from a Megabucks game, where the top prize starts at $10 million.
MGM Resorts didn’t say whether the player took the jackpot as a lump sum or in installments. A lump sum is a reduced payment, while the full amount would be paid out over 25 to 30 years.
The win came less than a week after a player won just over $1 million on a Monopoly slot in Fontainebleau’s new high-limit slot room, which also has three $5 million Dragon Link Grand Jackpots. The Monopoly winner was also playing $50 spins and hit after about 20 minutes of play.
These $5 million Grand Jackpot games are only in a few casinos today, but it wouldn't be surprising to see them roll out to more casinos as the huge wins go viral.
Earlier this year, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reported that visitors in 2025 were wealthier than in previous years. The study showed that 64% of visitors had a household income of $100,000 or more, and 44% made $150,000 or more.
Gambling budgets also increased, reaching $848.95 per trip. More affluent visitors who are spending more to gamble is one reason so many casinos have upgraded their high-limit rooms over the past few years.
These million-dollar wins should continue for the foreseeable future as casinos upgrade and expand their high-limit slot rooms, salons and lounges. While these big wins were on the Strip, casinos from downtown Vegas to the Durango Casino in the burbs are upgrading high-limit rooms.
Since 2022, 15 casinos have upgraded or expanded their high-limit slot rooms. Aria’s room is among the oldest of the new group, updated in 2023. Bellagio’s was updated last year, and The Cosmopolitan got a makeover earlier this year.
While MGM Resorts has rolle out value promotions like its all-inclusive deal, it’s more focused on its most affluent customers. Low rollers staying and playing at Luxor and Excalibur account for only about 6% of MGM’s total Las Vegas earnings. Big spenders will drop $50 a spin on slot machines or spend almost $9,000 for a Las Vegas Grand Prix experience.
Million-dollar jackpot games usually sit front and center in high-limit slot rooms, which is where you’d expect to find them. That could change in the future, starting with Station Casinos' different approach.
Red Rock Casino just added three Dragon Link machines with $250,000, $500,000 and $2 million Grand Jackpots to its high-limit table games room. They’re the only slot machines in the room, and they’re tucked away from both the table games and the other high-limit slots.
The room is more private than the main high-limit slot room in the middle of the casino floor. That makes it a more discreet spot for players who’d rather play big money without others watching. It’s also a good location for group pulls.
When we spoke with Golden Gate Casino owner Derek Stevens at the opening of the new high-limit slot room, he said high-limit slot rooms have become group gambling spaces. Friend groups, bachelor and bachelorette parties, and content creators have made these rooms a favorite for people who want to gamble together.
The million-dollar Monopoly winner speaks to group gambling. The million-dollar win took place during the Vegas Matt and Friends weekend at Fontainebleau.
