The Luckiest and Unluckiest Casinos in Pennsylvania

There are 17 land-based casinos in Pennsylvania, with natives being just one of five states that can also play at casino sites, having been legalized back in 2017. So Pennamites really do get the best of both worlds when it comes to casinos, with a mountain of options to choose from.

And it's good for the state, too. In 2022, the national tax revenue from commercial casinos in the United States was highest in Pennsylvania at $2.2 billion. That's billion, with a b. Casinos in the state of Pennsylvania also employ between 30-40,000 people.

So, with plenty of land-based gambling opportunities, we wondered where exactly the luckiest place to hit the casino floor was. We measured 12 of the most popular casinos in the state to find out which is the luckiest casino, and in turn which is the unluckiest out of the following;

  • Wind Creek Bethlehem
  • Harrah's Philadelphia
  • Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course
  • The Meadows Racetrack and Casino
  • Live Casino & Hotel Philadelphia
  • Mohegan Pennsylvania
  • Mount Airy Casino Resort Spa
  • Parx Casino
  • Presque Isle Downs & Casino
  • River Casino Philadelphia
  • Rivers Casino
  • Valley Forge Casino Resort

To do this, our research and analytics teams scraped review data on each of the casinos listed above related to luck-related keywords. So, for example, reviews that had one instance of "lucky", "won", "winning", "success" and other terms that could signal some big wins.

So, What's The Luckiest Casino in Pennsylvania?

Unfortunately, if we had this exact answer, we'd be there ourselves and not currently be writing this article. How casino games work is essentially the same in every establishment, with slight rule variations such as slot volatilities or house rules in blackjack. Our data concentrated on real-life reviews of people who had stepped foot in each casino, and played there with real money.

And the winner is...

Our calculations show the Parx Casino, the largest casino in terms of size in the state, located in Bensalem in Bucks County, just northeast of Philadelphia, is the luckiest casino establishment in Pennsylvania. With a luck percentage of 34.4%, Parx also had the highest percentage of "jackpot" mentions, with 3.6% of reviews mentioning that phrase. Also a thoroughbred horse racing venue, customers can enjoy all of the usual suspects in terms of casino games alongside horse racing and sports betting. It's the home of Pennsylvania's two premier thoroughbred races worth $1 million, while also boasting 3,200 slot machines and an impressive 188 tables.

"Hand pay after hand pay. I hit jackpots all the time here at Parx."

Closely in second, with a luck percentage of 29%, was the Presque Isle Downs & Casino. A less-visited spot that perhaps deserves more footfall if the reviews are to be believed, with plenty of patrons mentioning "lucky", "won", "bonus" and "profit" in their reviews. Rivers Philadelphia Casino completed the top three luckiest land-based casinos in the state.

Unfortunately, somebody has to come last, and this is where Valley Forge Casino Resort comes in. Of course, we can't say for sure that this is the unluckiest casino in Pennsylvania, but if the reviews are anything to go by, your chances of success are minimal, with just 3.6% of reviews mentioning luck-related keywords (63 reviews out of 1,726).

"I have little to no luck ever at this casino."

Other poor performers were the Live Casino & Hotel Philadelphia (9.4%), Mohegan Pennsylvania (10.3%), Mount Airy Casino Resort Spa (10.5%), and the most reviewed casino with 14,828 - Harrah's Philadelphia (11.3%).
