Nelly Hosting $50K Buy-In Casino Tournament at Venetian This Weekend

LAS VEGAS – Famed rapper and singer Nelly will be hosting a special event for high rollers at the Venetian this weekend. A new tournament called the Crowne Classic will challenge up to 50 players willing to pony up a $50k buy-in for two days of competition across five classic casino games, with $1 million going to the first-place winner.

The event will take place Aug. 14 and 15, with prizes ranging from $100,000 to $1 million.

Five Games to Win Six-Figure Prizes

During the Crowne Classic, players will compete in baccarat, blackjack, craps, roulette, and slots rather than being limited to just one game. Each player begins with $25,000 in tournament chips for each of the four table games and $5,000 in slot credit.

Competitors are ranked from first place to 50th place at the end of each game session. First place receives 50 leaderboard points, and each subsequent position receives one point fewer.

Once all five games are complete, the points are added together to determine who wins it all.

Anyone who misses a game automatically receives a zero for that portion, so showing up on time for each seating matters just as much as skill at the table.

The event starts on Friday with registration and tournament play. On Saturday, the competition continues, and winners will be celebrated at an awards ceremony later that evening.

The cash prize breakdown is:

• First place: $1 million
• Second place: $500,000
• Third: $300,000 
• Fourth to seventh places: range from $250,000 to $100,000

With the tournament limited to 50 players, each putting up $50,000, it could generate up to $2.5 million in total buy-ins alone.

Nelly’s Off the Stage and on the Casino Floor

The “Hot in Herre” singer is no stranger to the casino floor, especially at Venetian. 

Nelly was part of the group that played the first hand in Venetian's new 14,000-square-foot poker room, which opened in August 2024. The room was moved from the casino floor to the second floor of the Grand Canal Shoppes, between the Venetian and the Palazzo. Nelly joined some of the casino’s executives and poker pros, including 2017 WSOP Main Event Champion Scott Blumstein, at the tables.

His connection to Las Vegas goes beyond poker. Nelly was a resident performer at Resorts World’s Zouk Nightclub and Ayu Dayclub from January to August 2025, sharing a roster with artists like Lil Wayne, T-Pain, and DJ Snake. 

He also recently performed at XS Nightclub inside the Encore before it closed for renovations at the end of July. 

Five-Game Test of Skill?

Nelly's existing relationship with the property gives Venetian a recognizable name to attach to the tournament, but the event itself is designed to attract high rollers willing to put up a $50,000 buy-in. Players at that level could also be big spenders elsewhere on the property at restaurants, the hotel, or nightlife venues.

High rollers who are withdrawing large amounts from their bank accounts could benefit from the Rollcard, a new Visa debit card from Grandstand with a daily spending limit of $1 million.

A $1 million top prize sounds impressive, but it's the multi-game format that actually makes this tournament tough. Players are essentially being tested on their ability to compete in multiple casino games. Requiring players to be skilled in all of those areas and get as many points as possible may be easier said than done.

Friday, we’ll find out whether the tournament actually reaches its full field of 50 players. Signups are officially closed, but there’s no saying that everyone will show. The tournament's own rules state that the prize pool is based on the number of participants, so an incomplete field could shrink the total payout at the end of the tournament.

It's also unclear whether Venetian would open up any vacated spots to walk-up players with $50,000 to spare. Either way, it'll be worth watching who ends up participating and who walks away with the grand prize.
