Florida Casino Slot Revenue Rises 9.4% Year-on-Year, Officials Work to Prevent Illegal Gambling

Non-tribal casinos in Florida generated $61 million in slot revenue for August, an increase of 9.4% from the $54.9 million recorded last year. The casinos also saw a 3% month-on-month rise, with profits increasing from $58.2 million in July. 

While non-tribal casino profits are on the rise, David Hoenemeyer, COO of Seminole Gaming, the tribal gaming arm of the Seminole Tribe, which operates Hard Rock casinos in the Sunshine State, has spoken out regarding frequent illegal gambling operations and the threats they pose to the Florida public. 

In his letter, Hoenemeyer points out that illegal gambling can thrive as local law enforcement and the state’s gambling regulator do not have the resources to permanently stop these operations from happening. He ended his statement urging Floridians to be vigilant of these businesses. 

Magic City Casino Takes the Lead

The figures, published by the Florida Gaming Control Commission, reveal that of the eight casinos in the state, only one saw a loss year-on-year. The Casino Miami saw profits decrease by 6.2% in August, from $7.9 million to $7.4 million, although this was a rise of 3.5% from the $7.1 million generated in July. 

Magic City Casino took the lead in both revenue increase and profits after generating $13.1 million in August, up 35.2% from the $9.7 million in August 2024. 

Though generating the highest revenue in August last year, the Pomano Park casino came in second place in August 2025 with a revenue of $10.6 million, an increase of 7.7% year-on-year from $9.8 million.

Dania Entertainment Centre came in second place for its 19% year-on-year increase from just under $4 million to $4.7 million. However, this does represent the second-lowest revenue in the state. 

While it did see a rise of 2.6% in August, the Big Easy Casino generated the lowest income in the state, $3.1 million, which mirrors the previous year, where it also achieved the lowest profits of just over $3 million. 

Senators Attempt to Keep Florida Gamblers Safe 

Prior to Hoenemeyer’s statement, Florida senators had been working to ban illegal online gambling that was not under the contract held with the Seminole Tribe. However, this was to no avail. 

Earlier in the year, Senator Corey Simon presented SB 1404, a bill that defined internet gambling as any casino-style game that could be played for real money or another prize of value outside of game tokens. This bill was introduced to prevent Florida players from using gaming sites not licensed and operated by the Seminole Tribe. 

Representative John Snyder also introduced HB 1467, intending to close loopholes in Florida’s sports betting laws.

The bill also planned to criminalize those who placed sports bets on platforms that were not operated by Hard Rock. It included a framework to bring daily fantasy sports operators under the Florida Gaming Control Commission and to increase the cool-off period between workers leaving the gambling regulator and partnering with sports betting operators. 

Despite lawmakers' efforts and proponents of the bills arguing that they would protect consumers and uphold the state’s compact agreement with the Seminole Tribe, both bills died in the Senate. 

While there remain risks to the public, the work of Senators, the Gaming Commission, and Seminole Gaming shows Florida officials' efforts to keep gamblers safe in the Sunshine State.
