Fans React as Morrissey Cancels Four-Night Wynn Las Vegas Residency

LAS VEGAS – Morrissey's upcoming residency in Las Vegas at the Wynn has been canceled as of Friday, Aug. 7. The former frontman of English rock band The Smiths was scheduled to perform four solo shows on Aug. 14, 15, 18, and 19 at the Encore Theater inside Wynn Las Vegas. 

Fans quickly took to social media on Friday with frustration, sarcasm, and little surprise, given the singer's history of canceled and postponed shows.

The dates were canceled due to "unforeseen logistical challenges," according to an email from Ticketmaster sent to ticket holders. A Reddit user first shared a screenshot of the cancellation email on Friday, which Ticketmaster sent to ticket holders.

Morrissey’s Cancellation History Resurfaces

The cancellation sparked plenty of discussion among Morrissey fans online, many of whom pointed to the singer's long history of canceled and postponed shows.

Fans’ reactions are perhaps unsurprising given Morrissey's track record of canceling shows, especially in Las Vegas. He postponed a performance at The Cosmopolitan three times between 2012 and 2013 before the show was ultimately scrapped entirely. He also canceled a performance at Mandalay Bay's House of Blues in 2023 and has continued to postpone or cancel additional performances at other venues over the years.

Even his first two shows in California for 2026 were postponed just days prior, but a statement from Morrissey’s team said this was an adverse reaction to a prescription medication.

Reddit users shared frustrations with the cancellation, but weren’t all too surprised.

"It's shocking he canceled a week out, not one hour. I don't understand how it's better to have an empty theater that generates nothing," wrote Reddit user pusheen-buttons.

Others expressed disappointment at Wynn for booking the singer in the first place, given his history of canceled or postponed shows.

 "Who at Wynn was being purposefully obtuse in booking Morrissey in the first place? Many, many choices that you can contract that do not have the history of no-shows,” commented user finfangfool. 

“The thing that always shocks me is now the theater will likely sit empty those nights instead of the artist getting replaced. It seems like just a huge loss for a resort when this happens, since they'll have a decent number of late hotel cancellations and likely end up with lower occupancy and spend throughout the resort,”  wrote Reddit user maxutilsperusd.

Another Reddit user, @maxutilsperusd, questioned why the cancellation could not be filled by another artist, saying that "the theater will likely sit empty those nights" and the resort may see "lower occupancy and spend" as a result.

What's Next for Morrissey’s Tour? 

The Wynn residency was supposed to kick off the next leg of Morrissey's ongoing tour in support of his 2026 album, Make-Up Is a Lie. He's been scheduled to perform internationally through the rest of the year and into December.

His next currently scheduled U.S. appearance is at Riot Fest in Chicago on Sept. 19, where he's set to open for Tool. The rest of the festival lineup includes acts like Social Distortion and Nas.

There's no official word yet on whether Wynn will book a replacement act for those Encore Theater dates, or whether Morrissey's residency will eventually be rescheduled.
