The Massachusetts State Lottery Commission (MSLC) announced Tuesday, Aug. 26 that it has selected Aristocrat Interactive as the operator for its upcoming iLottery platform in the state.

The announcement follows the 2024 decision by state lawmakers to pay for the establishment of online lottery products in Massachusetts.

Aristocrat Wins Competitive Tender for iLottery License

Initially, the plan was to have iLottery offerings available in Massachusetts by late 2025, but that start date has been pushed back multiple times. Aristocrat will operate the platform under the name NeoGames US LLP, with a contract set to begin on July 1, 2026, lasting for five years with the possibility for multiple extensions.

“We’re excited to be partnering with the MSLC who are widely recognized as a global leader in lotteries,” Aristocrat Interactive CEO Moti Malul said in a statement. “We look forward to helping the MSLC deliver on its objective to expand player engagement through innovative and responsible online play, and further enhance their ability to contribute to and support local communities.”

Aristocrat Interactive won the license after a competitive process in which the MSLC found the company to be the most suitable partner for the state.

“After a comprehensive and competitive process, Aristocrat Interactive demonstrated the best value for the Commonwealth,” MSLC Executive Director Mark William Bracken said in a statement. “Partnering with Aristocrat Interactive provides us with a proven, successful platform that will allow the Lottery to fulfill its mission of maximizing funding for early childhood education and care that will benefit families throughout the Commonwealth.”

Increasing Competition Led to Online Lottery Approval

Aristocrat Interactive’s experience in other American markets may have helped as well. The company began offering iLottery services in New Hampshire in July 2025, and will do so in Michigan starting in July 2026. It also partners with Michigan, North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia, as well as with the Canadian province of Alberta.

State lawmakers agreed to put products from the Massachusetts Lottery online after warnings from lottery officials that failing to do so would endanger the $1 billion in revenue produced from the state lottery each year. Officials cited competition from casinos, online sports betting, and daily fantasy sports as threats to lottery profits.

In December 2024, Massachusetts Treasurer Deborah Goldberg told legislators that she expected iLottery products to bring in more than $70 million in net product in its first year, which would rise to nearly $360 million after a decade.

Online lottery may not be the final frontier of gambling expansion in Massachusetts. In June, state lawmakers heard arguments over the potential legalization of online casinos in the state, though they did not vote on the issue. There has been legalized sports betting in Massachusetts since January 2023, with online sports betting shortly following in March 2023.
