Two people were killed and five more wounded after a man opened fire in the parking lot of the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino in Eagle Pass, Texas late Saturday night.

Authorities identified the suspect as 34-year-old Keryan Rashad Jones of San Antonio. While Jones has been arrested, officials say they have not yet identified a motive for the shooting.

Suspect Apprehended After Vehicle Pursuit

Jones was arrested hours after the incident following a pursuit near Stockdale, Texas. He faces two counts of capital murder and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon, according to law enforcement.

According to authorities, the shooting took place during a raffle event that had drawn a large crowd to the area. Deputies from Maverick County Sheriff’s Office responded shortly after midnight to assist tribal police at the scene. Jones allegedly fled the scene, but officers were able to track and stop his vehicle to take him into custody.

Representative Tony Gonzales expressed condolences for those who were killed or harmed during the shooting, while thanking law enforcement for the quick response.

“Earlier this morning, a tragic shooting near Eagle Pass at the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino claimed the lives of two individuals and left several injured,” Gonzales posted on X on Sunday. “Tribal, local, and state law enforcement agencies are working diligently to bring the suspect to justice.”

Casino to Reopen Following Shooting

Maverick County Judge Ramsey English Cantu urged the community to come together and decried the frequency of mass shootings.

“It pains me deeply to see these horrific acts of violence occurring in our home,” Cantu said. “When is enough, enough? Maverick County deserves safety, peace, and unity – and we will keep fighting for it.”

The Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino has been closed since Sept. 28, but officials announced Wednesday morning that the property will reopen to guests on Friday, Oct. 3.

“As we reopen, we are committed to supporting our team, our guests and are grateful for the strength of our community,” the casino said in a statement. “We look forward to seeing everyone.”

The announcement came less than 24 hours after the casino initially said it would remain closed during the investigation.

Broader Pattern of Violence at Casinos

The victims who were killed were identified as Marcus “Mark” Antley, a retired Border Patrol agent from Eagle Pass who was in his mid-60s, and Alicia Sanchez, 32, of Carrizo Springs.

The casino is operated by the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas and located in Eagle Pass, just over the U.S.-Mexico border from Piedras Negras, Coahuila.

Casinos in the United States have unfortunately been the sites of several mass shootings this year.

On June 8, 2025, a shooting outside the Bellagio in Las Vegas left two victims dead. In late July, three were killed in a shooting at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno, Nevada while shooting at the Aliante Casino and Hotel in North Las Vegas left one dead in early April.
