Luxor Pool Reopens After Months-Long Makeover: What's New?

LAS VEGAS – The pool complex at the Luxor Hotel & Casino was closed for several months, and anyone staying there who wanted to swim had to go out of their way to another property just to do so. But the Oasis Pool reopened last month, so what’s better than going down to the Strip to check it out myself?

Most of what I knew about the Luxor pool came from photos. But this time, I got to tour the new pool with Zoey D’Arienzo, VP of Food and Beverage at Mandalay Bay, who also oversees operations at Luxor and The W. She walked me through what changed after this pool overhaul and why it was changed.

“In order to stay competitive, we had to upgrade what we have – it was just that time,” D’Arienzo said. “With our portfolio across the Strip corridor, we have a lot of different options for everyone. Let’s give something for everybody here.”

Walking in, I found the pool area clean, open, and pleasant. The most noticeable thing was that one of the pools seemed smaller than I remembered from the pictures, which showed off four pool areas. Many pictures of the pools are taken from the bridge to the parking garage, which gives a completely different perspective than being right on the pool deck. This layout change, along with others, was intentional, and D’Arienzo explained how guest feedback influenced it.

Noticeable Changes in Pool Size, Among Other Upgrades

The bulk of the work went into the south pool, which was completely drained, resurfaced, and rebuilt from the bottom up. Photos of this work were initially shared on social media, leaving people puzzled about what the results would look like afterward.

According to Clark County records from December 2025, the demolition contract for the overhaul was originally valued at about $220,000, though MGM was unable to disclose the full project cost.

The south pool in the Oasis Pool area underwent a major overhaul to reach the refreshed state it’s in today.

Visually, the pool looks smaller now, but there’s extra space around the deck for guests to sit and lounge. D’Arienzo said the pool has been “completely redone” with the overall aesthetics enhanced as well.

“We added more pool entrances because guests want to be poolside and closer [to the water]," she said. "The goal is to make a personalized experience, so we added more VIP seating as well.”

To give guests that additional deck space, some pool square footage had to be sacrificed. What used to be a dividing block between sections of the south pool has been replaced with an expanded deck area. The added entry points to the pool also make it more accessible, so guests don’t have to plop in from random spots along the water’s edge.

Along with the changes to the pool itself, the deck now has upgraded furniture and additional daybeds. D’Arienzo mentioned that more shade will be coming soon.

“We’re adding a ton of umbrellas. I believe some of those are even arriving next week,” D’Arienzo said. “That is for sure one thing that guests here in Las Vegas want.”

It’s a great (and needed) choice. The giant, BetMGM-branded pyramid blocks quite a bit of sun on the west-facing side, but leaves other areas fully exposed after the sun is at its peak and as it goes down throughout the afternoon.

As for the North Pool, changes on that side were smaller. Furniture on that side has been upgraded as well, but it still pays homage to the Egyptian theme.

“We wanted to keep the overall aesthetic of the pool deck itself, and this north pool has been with us from the start,” D’Arienzo said. “It really helps to enhance the Egyptian heritage of our building.”

The pool’s aesthetic is evident throughout the area, aside from the massive pyramid. There’s a Sphinx you can lounge right in front of, along with wall statues that spray water into the pool.

Pool Upgrade Part of a Bigger Strategy

Going into this, I suspected that the pool upgrade had something to do with MGM’s all-inclusive package, which lets guests choose between Luxor or Excalibur as one of two south Strip properties included in the deal. The two casino-resorts are the more budget-friendly in MGM’s collection, so it makes sense that they would need to scale up their amenities to remain competitive.

D’Arienzo confirmed that the new pool is part of efforts to keep the Luxor offerings worthwhile for the package. She tells us the all-inclusive deal extremely successful, and they have been welcoming new guests to the property as a result.

She also said that more guests have come to swim since the pool reopened. The all-inclusive program has specifically helped attract a younger demographic that may not have considered Luxor before. It’s also been driving people to check out restaurants on the property that they might not otherwise have tried.

“We’re seeing more of a younger generation on the property than normal,” D’Arienzo said. “It’s definitely helped to close a little bit of that generational gap, which is great.”

Luxor’s location also puts it in a good spot to benefit from the Allegiant Stadium traffic in a way that not all Strip resorts have. Guests often use Luxor as their parking base for stadium events since it’s only a 12-minute walk away. The upgraded pool is right in view from the casino bridge to the parking garage, so plenty of people passing through will see it whether they’re staying there or not.

The pool itself looks well done and ready for guests, who were there on Tuesday, taking advantage of it while I was (enviously) browsing around in business casual wear. Between the new pool and the all-inclusive package, the property’s clearly bringing in more people in 2026.

Old aerial photos of Luxor show the four-pool layout that no longer exists, so the new setup trades some of that space to give guests more area to just lie out and get some sun. It’s good to see a themed resort like Luxor still getting the investment it deserves, especially as many new properties are opting for themeless luxury. With how hot Las Vegas gets, lounging poolside in an upgraded space never hurts!
