Iowa Casinos Make $131.7 in September, Cedar Cross Casino Construction Continues

Commercial casinos in Iowa generated $131.7 million, remaining stable year over year but increasing by 0.2% from the $131.4 million generated the year prior.

Table games generated $12.1 million, a 7.5% decrease from the $13.1 million generated in September 2024, while slots remained stable with a 1.1% increase from $118.2 million to just under $120 million.

Additionally, new updates have been provided on the Cedar Rapids Casino construction ahead of its proposed opening on December 31, 2026.

Major Wins Make Up For Major Losses

The latest report from the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission shows that while casino revenue overall in the state remained stable, some of the 19 commercial casinos reported double-digit wins and losses.

Of the 19 casinos, six reported stable revenues, including the Diamond Jo Dubuque, Riverside Casino and Golf Resort, and Rhythm City Casino.

Q Casino reported the highest year-on-year gains, with profits increasing by 19.5% from $3.3 million to just under $4 million. Lakeside Casino followed in close second with a rise of 19.2% from $3.7 million to $4.4 million.

Cedar Rapids Casino Gets A Lick of Paint

After being approved by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission in February, new images from photographer Calcam Ap on Facebook have shown that construction is continuing on the Cedar Crossing Casino. The exterior paint is being applied, and the parking lot is being laid out.

After being approved in February this year, despite senators' attempts to prevent the passage by fast-tracking a five-year moratorium on new casinos, the $275 million casino will include 700 slot machines, 22 table games, a 1,500-seat concert and events venue, and various restaurants.

Members of the community are expected to feel the benefits, as the casino will also include an arts and cultural center and a free-access STEM lab for Linn County students.

If all goes well, the casino is expected to open on December 31, 2026, and is expected to bring jobs and entertainment to the riverfront.

I grew up watching Celebrity Poker religiously and that turned into my organizing March Madness bracket tournaments all throughout elementary and high school—making every March a high-stakes competition among friends before I was even old enough to place a real bet.
