LAS VEGAS — Guests at Rampart Casino in Summerlin narrowly avoided what could’ve been a terrifying scene last Thursday night when an armed robber stormed the property’s main cashier cage with an AR-style rifle and escaped with cash, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD).

The robbery happened around 10:30 p.m. on November 13 at the off-Strip casino on Rampart Boulevard in northwest Las Vegas. LVMPD says the suspect walked through the parking garage and entered the property without drawing attention before approaching the cage.

Suspect Wore Ballistic Helmet, Fake Security Jacket

LVMPD issued a statement on the crime and later released surveillance footage of the encounter on Tuesday showing the gunman heavily disguised with a ballistic helmet, blue sunglasses, a black face mask, and a blue-and-neon yellow security-style jacket that read “here to assist you.” The outfit made him easy to miss, as guests could've easily assumed he was a resort security employee.

According to police, the man walked directly to the cage and demanded money. When a security officer approached, the suspect pulled out an AR-style rifle and pointed it directly at him, prompting the guard to raise his hands and step back. The employee at the cage complied, handed over the cash, and the suspect exited the casino the same way he entered.

Detectives say they have very little to identify the suspect, as his is race is unknown, and surveillance footage only captured his heavily covered appearance. Officials have not disclosed the amount of money stolen at this time.

Unlikely Target in a Quiet Vegas Suburb

Rampart Casino sits within the upscale JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa in the upper-west side of the Las Vegas valley. The two are fully integrated, with Hotspur Resorts owning the hotel and acquiring the casino in 2012 when Millennium Management Group’s lease expired.  It has no movie theater, bowling alley, nor nightlife venues, but is a popular stopover for Summerlin retirees and visitors in town for outings at one of the many nearby golf courses.

The casino completed a $75 million property-wide renovation in 2024, along with another renovation this year for the high-limit room and Spa Aquae. New signage branding the whole casino-resort property as The Resort at Summerlin has recently appeared on-site.

Rampart Casino is located in a relatively quiet area of a suburb in Las Vegas, directly across from the Boyd-Gaming owned Suncoast Hotel and Casino . This makes the armed robbery especially jarring for an area not typically associated with major crime.

LVMPD says the investigation remains active and anyone with information is urged to contact detectives at 702-828-3591 or by email at [email protected]. If wishing to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
