LAS VEGAS – Even though Caesars will be taking over the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas at the end of July, the popular SuperContest brand of football contests is still returning for 2026. Sign-ups began on Wednesday for the SuperContest, SuperContest Gold, SuperContest Survivor, and SuperContest College. Despite the upcoming transition, the sportsbook is continuing to operate on a business as usual basis.
Like the Circa Sports football contests, entrants must sign up in person and be able to enter picks at the sportsbook, via the mobile app within the state of Nevada or with the help of a proxy. However, the key difference between the Circa contests and the SuperContest is the lack of guaranteed prize money for the biggest winners – and losers. For the SuperContest, prizes are simply awarded based on the total number of entries.
While Circa has taken over as the new king of Las Vegas football contests, the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino will always be remembered as hosting the original pick-five “ultimate football handicapping challenge” going back to the old Hilton days.
The SuperContest started in 1988 at the Las Vegas Hilton when the sportsbook was run by Art Manteris. Then Jay Kornegay took it to an astronomical level after coming from the Imperial Palace in 2004, later introducing a higher-stakes, winner-take-all version of the popular pick-five contest in 2017 called the SuperContest Gold with a $5,000 entry fee. Two contestants won more than $1 million there before Circa Sports launched in 2019.
The SuperContest was also the first Vegas football contest that made it possible for anyone from across the country and around the globe to compete against the best in the world. Most entrants live outside Nevada, which means they need to find a way to get to Sin City before the season begins and hire a reputable proxy to submit weekly picks on their behalf.
The standard SuperContest requires participants to make five NFL picks against the spread each week for 18 weeks. The entry fee is $1,500 with a max of 10 entries allowed per person. There are 11 additional in-season prizes, awarded every three, six, and nine weeks.
Last year, the SuperBook added Survivor ($5,000 per entry) and college football ($500) contests in an effort to differentiate itself from Circa. The college football contest requires seven picks for 14 weeks and had 1,080 entries in its first year, the most ever for any of its kind in Vegas. The Survivor contest totaled 111 entries for a $555,000 prize pool.
John Murray, who took over for Kornegay as Vice President of Racing and Sports at the Superbook in 2024, was pleased with the debut.
“College [football] was right around where I expected it to be, but that’s the one I’m expecting to see growth in 2026," Murray said. "I don’t think enough people knew about it last year, and we are hoping that the partnership with Caesars – and the resources their organization has – will allow us to reach more people this season and in future seasons.”
One of the unfortunate casualties of the Caesars takeover of the SuperBook is that SuperContest Weekend will not return this year. In the past, the annual August event leading up to the season included a golf outing, handicapping seminar, and raffle in which SuperContest participants could win free entries and hotel stays, among other prizes.
Fortunately, Circa will still have its Ultimate Contest Weekend from August 27 to 29, featuring a cocktail party, meet-and-greet, Stadium Swim open bar, blackjack shootout, Legacy Club mixer, and a Circa football preview hosted by Mike Palm. Different hotel offers are available to contestants as well, depending on how many entries they sign up for.
In addition, Circa will host the first-ever National Fantasy Football Draft Day presented by Draft Nation on August 22, with festivities starting on August 20. The three-day festival will celebrate the merger of two fantasy sports giants and their players, including a ribbon-cutting ceremony, celebrity charity draft, and raffle for five Circa football contest entries.
