September Sports in Vegas Bring Raiders, Golden Knights and a Loaded Fight Card

September kicks off one of the busiest stretches on the Las Vegas sports calendar. The NFL and NHL regular seasons get underway, the WNBA playoffs begin, and major combat sports events are on the schedule.

This also highlights what makes Las Vegas such a great sports town. You can watch the games live, in the air-conditioned comfort of a casino sportsbook, or grab drinks and eats at one of the many bars and restaurants around town.

One of the best aspects of football season is the specials in casino bars and restaurants. Many offer drink specials and all-you-can-eat deals. 

As with most deals, the best prices are often found away from the Vegas Strip. This isn't the big step down it used to be with all of the off-Strip upgrades over the past couple of years.

Raiders Regular Season Kicks Off

The NFL is America's most popular sport by all metrics, from gambling volume to TV ratings. The Raiders host their first and only home game of the month later in the week on Sunday, Sept. 13, at Allegiant Stadium against the Miami Dolphins. Kickoff is at 1:25 p.m., so fans can wager and watch most of the 10 a.m. games before heading to the game.

Ticket holders can get a BOGO beer before or after the game at the following bars: 

• Aurora and Centra at Luxor
• Eyecandy, Rhythm & Riffs, Hazel, Baccarat Bar, Island Bar, Sports Bar, Franklin & Skyfall at Mandalay Bay. 

Visit MGM's Fan District for up-to-date promotions. Dolphins fans can expect a friendly environment before, after, and during the game. There are typically as many, if not more, fans of the visiting team than Raiders fans in attendance at Allegiant Stadium.

Lucha Libre at MGM Grand

This is the first U.S. edition and first-ever two-night version of Lucha Libre AAA's signature annual event. WWE, which now owns AAA, will host the first leg of the event on Sept. 11.

The Mexican Independence Day weekend event was in such high demand that it was moved from Luxor to the much larger MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Matches will include Mexican wrestlers from WWE in the U.S. and wrestlers from AAA in Mexico. One match that will pit the two organizations against each other is Penta, Dragon Lee and Rey Fenix of WWE vs. Los Perros del Mal (Daga, Berto, Angel) with Karmen Petrovic from AAA.

WNBA Season Comes to an End

The WNBA regular season comes to an end this month. The Las Vegas Aces have two games at the Michelob Ultra Arena at Mandalay Bay:

• Sept. 20 vs. Seattle Storm
• Sept. 22 vs. L.A. Sparks

The Aces will end the season with one of the best records again. The team will begin its run to defend its 2025 WNBA championship when the playoffs begin on Sept. 27.

Mexican Independence Day Boxing

Las Vegas has a longstanding 35-year tradition of hosting a big boxing match on Mexican Independence Day weekend. The card will take place on Sept. 12 at T-Mobile Arena.

In the main event, Ryan Garcia (25-2, 20 KOs) makes the first defense of his newly won WBC welterweight world title against No. 1 contender Conor Benn (25-1). While Benn has one loss in a higher weight class, he enters this matchup undefeated as a natural welterweight.

The rest of the card ranges from tiny featherweights to a heavyweight battle between two powerful knockout artists.

T-Mobile Arena typically opens doors for boxing around 4 p.m. The main event often starts around 8 p.m., so fans still have time for a full night of Vegas ahead of them.

Golden Knights Drop the Puck on the Regular Season

The NHL drops the puck on the season in September. The Vegas Golden Knights have a couple of exhibition games at T-Mobile Arena before the regular season starts a few days later:

• Sept. 24 vs. Utah Mammoth (Preseason)
• Sept. 26 vs. San Jose Sharks (Preseason)
• Sept. 29 vs Chicago Blackhawks (Regular season)

There's no other pregame atmosphere for big Golden Knights games. Opening night could be one of those special nights with an unforgettable introduction.

Look ahead: The Golden Knights have eight games next month, beginning Oct. 2 vs. the Anaheim Ducks.
