The commercial casino sector in the state of Rhode Island generated 0.9% less revenue this July than in the corresponding month last year.
The Rhode Island Lottery has published the latest set of monthly returns that show the two regulated casinos in the state combined for a total revenue of $53.2 million in July, a decline of 0.9% compared to a total of $53.7 million in July 2024.
Rhode Island’s published revenue figures include that generated by table games and VLT machines, and there was a clear difference between the two segments in July, with combined VLT revenue rising from $42.5 million last July to $43.4 million this year. Table game revenue, however, declined by 12.6% year on year, from $11.2 million to $9.8 million.
Gaming operator Bally’s is headquartered in Rhode Island and owns both of the regulated venues, but their casinos recorded divergent performances in July.
| Casino | July 2024 Revenue | July 2025 Revenue | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bally's Twin Rivers | $40,844,598 | $40,113,628 | -1.8% |
| Bally's Tiverton | $12,823,534 | $13,083,246 | 2% |
| Total | $53,668,132 | $53,196,874 | -0.9% |
Bally’s Twin Rivers showed a year-on-year revenue decline of 1.8%, from $40.8 million to $40.1 million. However, slot revenue saw an increase of 2%, rising from $31.6 million to $32.3 million.
In contrast, Bally’s Tiverton posted 2% revenue growth, while table games for the casino saw a decrease of 0.4%, and slots experienced a revenue increase of 2.5% from $10.8 million to $11.1 million.
Twin Rivers, however, remains the dominant player in this market with a market share of around 75% of total revenue.
While its Rhode Island operations showed little year-on-year progress in July, Bally’s has been busy making headlines on both sides of the Atlantic, with significant developments in New York and the United Kingdom underlining the company’s aggressive expansion plans.
In New York, Bally’s received a boost when Mayor Eric Adams vetoed a City Council vote that had threatened to derail the company’s $4 billion casino project in the Bronx. The council had previously rejected a key zoning change, casting doubt on the future of the proposed development. The site, which was once operated by the Trump Organization, raised additional concerns due to a potential $115 million windfall for the president’s company.
Adams' veto is widely seen as a lifeline for the project, which had appeared to be running out of steam. According to local reports, it is unlikely that the City Council would choose to override the mayor’s decision, which means the Bally’s proposal will go forward to be considered at the state level ahead of a final decision on who gets the three available casino licenses in the city.
Meanwhile, overseas, Bally’s is increasing its visibility in the UK. The company has announced it will be the official front-of-shirt sponsor for Nottingham Forest, the English Premier League club that finished seventh last season, just missing a spot in the UEFA Champions League. Bally’s also marked a major milestone with the recent opening of its first UK casino, located in Newcastle. The move underlines the company’s ambition to compete in Europe’s lucrative gambling market.

My love for gambling and casinos started early when my grandad handed me a video poker machine as a kid, sparking a lifelong fascination with the game. I grew up watching Celebrity Poker religiously and that turned into my organizing March Madness bracket tournaments all throughout elementary and high school—making every March a high-stakes competition among friends before I was even old enough to place a real bet.
