The Luckiest and Unluckiest Casinos in New Jersey

New Jersey is one of the nation's leading casino destinations, with natives being just one of five states that can also play at casino sites. Both the land-based and online side of things are worth hundreds of millions a year, and people flock to Atlantic City in their millions.

In a study by Casinos.com last year, we projected online casinos to generate a total of $2.3 billion a month by 2025. All online casinos must be attached to a land-based entity, but most trade online under a separate or additional brand name to their land-based casino. For example, Borgata trades as PartyCasino online. Caesars Palace Online Casino in New Jersey operates both Caesars online and Harrah’s Casino online.

But let's get back to business. With plenty of land-based gambling opportunities available in New Jersey, we wondered where precisely the luckiest establishment to place your bets was. We measured 11 of the most popular casinos in the state to find out which is the luckiest casino, and in turn which is the unluckiest out of the following;

  • Borgata Casino
  • Caesars Atlantic City Casino
  • Harrah's Atlantic City Casino
  • Golden Nugget Casino
  • Hard Rock Casino
  • Tropicana Casino
  • Resorts Casino Hotel
  • Bally's Atlantic City Casino
  • Wild Wild West Casino
  • Ocean Casino Resort

To do this, our research and analytics teams scraped review data on each of the New Jersey casinos listed above related to luck-related keywords. So, for example, reviews that had one instance of "lucky", "won", "winning", "success" and other terms that could signal some big wins.

So, What's The Luckiest Casino in New Jersey?

In truth, if we had this exact answer, we'd be there ourselves and would not be writing this article. How casino games work is essentially the same in every establishment, with slight rule variations such as slot volatilities or house rules in blackjack. Our data concentrated on real-life reviews of people who had stepped foot in each casino, and played there with real money

However, out of all the casinos in New Jersey, we were able to establish that the famous Hard Rock Casino was indeed the luckiest casino out of all measured, with an eye-watering 12.1% luck rate. A total of 56 reviews (out of 463) mentioned elements of luck, with a high percentage of revelers mentioning 'winning', 'won' and 'jackpot'.

Also the odds seem to favor me better and I’ve won several jackpots.

Ocean Casino Resort is next up in second place, which just about finished second with 12.09%. There was just a 0.01% difference between first and second place, but every percent matters in luck.

Meanwhile, the Borgata Casino, the most-reviewed casino in New Jersey, had a respectable score of 10.16%, although that pushed it pretty far down the leaderboard into 7th.

Caesars Atlantic City Casino performed poorly, second last overall. However, the famous casino did have the highest number of 'jackpot' mentions, so it seems those who do get lucky there, get VERY lucky.

Unfortunately, someone has to come last, and that title is awarded to the Wild Wild West Casino with a 7.14% luck percentage. Out of over 600 reviews, there was only one mention of 'jackpot' and 'profit'. Not exactly encouraging.

Methodology

Casinos.com utilized Trip Advisor reviews to do an in-depth analysis of phrases associated with luck to determine the luckiest and unluckiest casinos in the state of West Virginia. We calculated the percentage of luck-rated mentions in the total Trip Advisor reviews and extrapolated them as if all Casinos had the same number of reviews for fairness.

  • Keywords tracked: Lucky, Luck, Winning, Big Win, Winner, Bonus, Profit, Success, Jackpot, Hand Pay
