New Hampshire charitable gaming hit $38.5 million in January, up from the previous year’s figure of $22.5 million and representing a year-on-year increase of 71.4%.

The figures, published by the New Hampshire Lottery, have been vastly boosted by the introduction of video lottery terminals (VLTs), which were signed into law in June 2025. Of the combined total, historic horse racing (HHR) totaled $16.6 million, up 3.4% year-on-year from $16 million. Games of chance were up 53.8% year-on-year from $6.5 million to $9.9 million. VLTs generated $12 million.

As New Hampshire’s casinos celebrate another successful month, one casino is ready to temporarily say goodbye to its patrons, with Casino Salem closing its doors in March as it undergoes a major redevelopment by casino operator Churchill Downs to expand its gaming venue.

The Nash Leads in January

Of the state’s active 13 casinos, six recorded year-on-year revenue increases, five reported declines, and two had non-representative data after opening their doors past January 2025.

The Nash, which opened in March 2025, recorded the biggest monthly revenue at $11.9 million. Of that, HHR generated $3.9 million, games of chance totaled $2.5 million, and VLTs produced $5.5 million in revenue.

The Brook came in second for January, reporting $7.4 million in revenue, up 8.8% year-on-year. Both HHR and games of chance declined at the casino, dropping 17.2% to $1.3 million and 21.9% to $4.1 million, respectively. VLTs actually boosted the casino’s revenue, generating an extra $2 million.

The highest year-on-year revenue increase came from Revo Casino Conway, which increased 3,664.7% to $742,433. The casino was actually operating a temporary venue ahead of its February 2025 opening.

Other big increases came from Revo Casino Lebanon, up 42.4% year-on-year; Revo Casino Manchester, up 11.8% year-on-year; and Beach Club Casino, up 11.6% year-on-year.

Casino Salem to Close its Doors for Major Rebrand

Casino Salem, which was on the lower end of revenue generators in January 2025, recording only $1.5 million, is set to close its doors in March to undergo redevelopment, after which it will be rebranded as the Rockingham Grand Casino.

The development, led by casino operator Churchill Downs, will transform Casino Salem into a larger venue. The casino opened its doors only this summer in The Mall at Rockingham Park; the venture was led by Joe Faro and Sal Lupoli.

The $200 million development will see Casino Salem occupy 160,000 square feet, with plans for 852 HHR machines, 32 table games, 12 electronic table games, and a retail sports betting bar.

The slated release is set for 2027.
