Longtime NBA player Marcus Morris Sr. was arrested on Sunday, July 27 and charged with a felony fraud charge in an incident his agent says is related to a casino debt

According to arrest records in Broward County, Florida, Morris was arrested for accusations of writing a check with insufficient funds. Booking documents also say he is being held in relation to another case that originated outside of Florida

Agent: Arrest Over Casino Marker ‘Absolute Insanity’

Morris was still in jail as of Monday morning, according to a USA Today report

The story gained publicity on Sunday night, when Morris’ twin brother Markieff posted about the arrest on X.

“The wording is crazy. Damn for that amount of money they’ll embarrass you in the airport with your family,” Markieff Morris wrote. “They got y’all really thinking bro did some fraud shit. They could have came to the crib for all that. When y’all hear the real story on this shit man. All I can say is lesson learned.”

Agent Yony Noy, who represents both Marcus and Markieff, also posted on Sunday night in an attempt to explain the arrest.

“Just so everyone understands this is zero fraud here or whatever crap outlets have said regarding fake checks or whatever the hell,” Noy wrote on X. “This is due to an outstanding marker with a casino. Apparently if you have over $1,200 they can issue a warrant for your arrest. Absolute insanity!”

Morris Brothers Starred for Kansas Jayhawks

Marcus Morris Sr. played 13 seasons in the NBA spanning from 2011 to 2024. Over that time, he played for eight different teams, averaging 12.0 points per game for his career. The 35-year-old is currently a free agent, but did not play in the NBA during the 2024-25 season.

Both Marcus and Markieff played college basketball together for the Kansas Jayhawks. Morris was the Big 12 Player of the Year for the 2010-11 season as well as a 2nd Team All-American in that same year. He was drafted 14th overall by the Houston Rockets in the 2011 NBA Draft.

Morris has faced charges on at least two other occasions since his professional career began.

In 2012, Marcus faced battery charges after punching an employee at a bar in Lawrence, Kansas. Both Morris brothers were charged in a 2015 aggravated assault case stemming from an alleged beating following a 2015 youth basketball game. Both men were found not guilty.
