Carrot Top Hospitalized After Suicide Attempt, Luxor Show Canceled

Las Vegas entertainer Carrot Top was hospitalized Friday, Sept. 18, following a suicide attempt.

The standup comedian, whose real name is Scott Thompson, attempted suicide in Las Vegas and was rushed to a local hospital, TMZ reported. His Friday night performance at Luxor was canceled following the emergency.

His representative, Jami Schlicher, said that Thompson is “recovering in the hospital and receiving the care and support he needs. His family and those closest to him are grateful for the concern and have asked for privacy.”

No additional details about Thompson’s condition have been released.

Performing Future of Longtime Comedian Unclear Following Suicide Attempt

Carrot Top has performed at Luxor for more than two decades, making him one of the longest-running comedians in the Vegas entertainment world. The residency has been ongoing since November 22, 2005.

Known for his trademark red hair and prop-focused comedy, Carrot Top’s show incorporates pop culture, music, and current events, and has evolved over the years. His shows feature elaborate props, lights, music, fog machines, and other production elements.

MGM Resorts announced in November 2023 that Thompson had extended his contract at Luxor through 2030 after celebrating his 18th anniversary at the property. MGM called him the longest-running headlining comedian in Las Vegas at the time.

His show takes place in the Atrium Showroom at Luxor, Monday through Saturday at 8 p.m. MGM’s current listing includes additional performances later in 2026, although the status of those shows following Friday’s hospitalization is unclear.

The status of Thompson’s upcoming performances was not immediately clear following his hospitalization.
