A man who flashed his genitals to three women outside a cinema and casino destination on Teesside has been jailed.

The two incidents took place on separate occasions. In May, 61-year-old Simon Batchelor was wearing a white dress when he lifted it up and exposed his genitals to women outside the Admiral Casino in Middlesbrough.

Batchelor remained outside the casino and continued to touch his genitals and play with himself.

In September, Batchelor dropped his trousers, exposing himself to three women outside a cinema. One woman recorded his behaviour on a phone while other witnesses called the police. The incident took place in the car park of the Cineworld on Marton Road.

Batchelor has been made subject to a previous sexual risk order after an incident where he was convicted of exposure and breaching the sexual risk order.

It led Judge Jonathan Carroll to say that Simon Batchelor had 'reached a stage where the risk cannot be managed in the community.'

Batchelor’s barrister, Michele Turner, told the court that Batchelor is ‘schizophrenic’ and had stopped taking his medication. Turner said that Batchelor claimed his offences were a ‘cry for help.’

Jailing Batchelor for 20 months Judge Carroll told Batchelor that he had "clearly targeted a car with three women in it in the Cineworld car park. You have reached a stage where the risk cannot be managed in the community. The only way to safeguard that community is for you to be in custody."

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
