Online Casinos Beat the Boardwalk as NJ August Revenue Falls 4.1%

New Jersey's casinos, racetracks and their online partners generated $615.7 million in total gaming revenue during August, a 4.1% decline from the $642.2 million reported in August 2025, according to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.

The drop was driven by Atlantic City's nine casinos and a sharp pullback in sports wagering, even as the state's online casinos kept growing. Casino win on the Atlantic City floor fell 5.5% to $294.9 million, while internet gaming win climbed 4.4% to $259.3 million. Sports wagering revenue dropped 25.0% to $61.4 million. Total gross revenue taxes for the month came to $81.5 million.

Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa remained Atlantic City's top-performing property in August, generating $85.4 million in casino win, up 6.4% from a year earlier even as the broader market declined. The total included $59.2 million from slot machines and $26.2 million from table and poker games.

Hard Rock Atlantic City posted $53.1 million, down 9.0% year-over-year, and Ocean Casino Resort generated $44.5 million, down 13.0%. The remaining six properties were not broken out with year-over-year comparisons in the Division of Gaming Enforcement's August summary, but combined for $111.9 million of the market's $294.9 million total.

New Jersey's online casinos generated $259.3 million in internet gaming win during August, up 4.4% from $248.4 million a year earlier, though industry analysts noted it was among the smallest year-over-year gains the market has posted in months. FanDuel remained the largest operator with $56.7 million, down slightly from a year earlier, followed by DraftKings at $43.5 million, down 7.5%.

Smaller operators posted faster growth. BetFanatics generated $13.1 million, up 30.7% year-over-year, while Bet365 grew 46.6% to $3.4 million and the Resorts Casino app grew 47.6% to $2.6 million.

Through eight months of 2026, online casino revenue has reached $2.13 billion, up 13.2% from $1.88 billion over the same period in 2025. That year-to-date total now exceeds the $2.01 billion won by Atlantic City's nine physical casinos over the same stretch, up just 1.8% year-over-year, marking the first time online casino revenue has out earned the casino floor across a full eight-month period.

Sports betting revenue for New Jersey's casinos, racetracks and their partners fell 25.0% to $61.4 million in August, down from $81.9 million a year earlier. The Division of Gaming Enforcement attributed the decline primarily to a later start to the fall sports calendar, including college football, compared with August 2025, as well as a lower overall win percentage for sportsbooks. Year-to-date sports wagering revenue stands at $671.4 million, down 5.3% from the same period last year.

Combined with casino win and internet gaming win, total gaming revenue for the month came to $615.7 million, down 4.1% year-over-year. Total gross revenue taxes were $81.5 million for August, bringing the year-to-date tax total to $674.2 million. Despite August's decline, year-to-date total gaming revenue of $4.81 billion remains 5.4% ahead of the $4.57 billion recorded through the same point in 2025, powered largely by the continued expansion of online casino play.
