Meanwhile, an Iowa District Court judge has dismissed a legal challenge to the granting of a casino license to Cedar Crossing Casino & Entertainment Center.
Riverside Casino & Golf Resort brought the challenge and contested the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission's decision. However, Judge Michael Schilling ruled that the Commission acted correctly when it gave the license to Cedar Crossing in February. The decision means that the $275 million development in Cedar Rapids can go ahead.
The court found that the regulator had correctly considered 420 written public comments and live testimony before awarding the license and that the assessment of the proposal was fair and independent.
“Today’s ruling is a victory for the people of Cedar Rapids. Our residents knew exactly what they were voting for: A transformational project that will create jobs, generate revenue, and add vibrancy to our city. We’ve always said we would follow the will of the voters, and now, with this decision, we can move forward with confidence and unity toward the future Cedar Rapidians chose,” stated Cedar Rapids Mayor Tiffany O’Donnell, welcoming the ruling.
