Gary to Pay $3.5M Yearly Towards Hard Rock Convention Project

As Hard Rock Casino brings in the highest revenue, it is also working to introduce new infrastructure in the state, with the Gary Common Council introducing an ordinance allowing the city to pay $3.5 million annually to fund the Lake County Convention Center.

The council is expected to vote on the law later in the month, with Gary planning to use money generated from gaming taxes. Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana is also expected to pay $1.5 million annually, while the state will match both funds.

Gary was selected by the Lake County Commissioners in May for the project to build the 145,000-square-foot convention center and Hard Rock Hotel. The council will allocate funds later this year if the ordinance goes ahead.
