LAS VEGAS — Construction is back underway at the future Hard Rock Las Vegas, but questions remain about the threat that prompted hundreds of workers to evacuate the former Mirage property Monday.
A Hard Rock International spokesperson confirmed to local station NBC News 3 that construction resumed as planned Tuesday, Oct. 6, following the one-day shutdown.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department described the incident as a “vague threat” at a construction site in the 3400 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard. Detectives responded to assess its credibility, and police said Monday there was no active or known danger. The construction site decided to evacuate as a precaution, police told FOX5.

On any given day, there could be up to 600 or more workers on the site.
Hard Rock said it suspended construction for the remainder of Monday while addressing a safety concern. The company later issued a statement that day saying, “The property is secure and we expect to resume operations tomorrow.”
FOX5 later reported that police confirmed a note had been written inside a portable toilet at the site. Authorities did not disclose who wrote the note, what it threatened and whether or not investigators determined it to be credible.
The spouse of one evacuated worker told FOX5 of two stories circulating about what happened.
“[Either] there was a note found in the porta potty with somebody leaving a description of threatening to shoot up the job site,” she said. “[Or], supposedly, one worker threatened another worker, stating that he was going to shoot up the job site.”
Casinos.com reached out to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on Tuesday, and in the spirit of not saying much about possible criminal activity at certain addresses on Las Vegas Boulevard, police referred us to the above tweet.
The disruption comes as Hard Rock transforms the former Mirage into a resort anchored by a guitar-shaped hotel tower.
Casinos.com previously covered the Guitar Tower’s topping-off milestone, when crews placed the final steel beam atop the structure earlier this year. The redevelopment also includes an overhaul of the existing Mirage hotel tower.
The $4 billion construction project operates on an accelerated 24/7 schedule to sustain continuous round-the-clock progress, with several large shifts of tradespeople required on-site daily.
The construction is slated to be complete by late 2027.
