Several UK casinos are marking the Easter holiday with poker tournaments and special events, including a charity competition in Aberdeen supporting armed forces veterans.
Long bank holiday weekends often give casinos the chance to run multi-day tournaments, drawing players looking for larger prize pools and extended play.
Grosvenor Casinos is among the operators scheduling holiday events.
Its “Easter Beast” poker series will feature more than £100,000 in guaranteed prize pools. One of the headline tournaments, the £100,000 GTD Easter Beast Midlands event, is scheduled to run in Coventry from 29 March to 3 April.
Holiday poker festivals allow casinos to stage multi-day tournaments, with several entry flights and larger fields than typical weekly games.
Meanwhile, MERKUR Casino Aberdeen is preparing to host a four-day charity poker tournament in support of Help for Heroes.
The event will take place from 26 March to 29 March at the casino’s Summer Street venue and will feature a £12,000 prize pot. Players can enter with £100 going directly to the prize pool, plus a minimum £5 donation supporting the veterans’ charity.
The tournament is being organised by George Gordon, senior general manager at the venue, who joined the casino in June 2025.
“When I arrived at MERKUR Casino Aberdeen, one of my first goals was to stage an event that brings people together while supporting a cause that truly matters,” Gordon said.
“Help for Heroes carries out incredible work supporting veterans and their families. The physical and emotional sacrifices made by members of the armed forces should never be forgotten, and we’re proud to play a small part in giving something back.”
Organisers are also inviting local businesses to sponsor the tournament and help increase the funds raised during the four-day event.
MERKUR says it supports charity initiatives across the UK through company funding and voluntary donations from customers. The organisation has supported more than 130 community groups and charities nationwide.

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
