Grosvenor Casino Cardiff Raises Charity Funds Through Poker

Grosvenor Casino Cardiff raised more than £6,000 for a local charity last month, courtesy of a special poker tournament featuring 80 players going head-to-head in the competitive company of several Welsh sporting celebrities.

The City Hospice Celebrity Poker Night took place on the evening of March 19 and offered the top five runners the chance to share in a prize pool totalling £2,200 ($2,778).

Wales 247 reports Merthyr Tydfil-born professional boxer Gavin Gwynne and former Welsh Rugby Union player Craig Quinnel also joined the action in aid of Cardiff’s foremost out-patient palliative care center.

Provincial Prominence

Situated inside Cardiff’s harborside Red Dragon Centre, the 19-year-old Grosvenor Casino Cardiff features a modest 7,500 sq ft casino destination hosting a multitude of the latest slots.

Casino also features 13 gaming tables with baccarat, blackjack and American roulette entertainment.

The Welsh facility from London-listed operator Rank Group also encompasses a restaurant, a sports lounge, and a bar, along with a dedicated poker room with daily tournaments, especially popular amongst fans of Texas hold‘em.

Exciting Enjoyment

The General Manager at Grosvenor Casino Cardiff, Mark Stothard, expressed pride at his facility’s ability to host the City Hospice Celebrity Poker Night before thanking every one of the competitors who had paid the £20 ($25) entry fee.

He also revealed that the ultimate winner had bluffed their way to victory before splitting the final cash prize with the runner up.

We’re proud to have raised £6,400 ($8,083) for City Hospice and would like to thank everyone for making the charity poker tournament such a success,” Stothard said.

“Whether you are a poker pro or a novice, our casino welcomes everyone to learn and play in a relaxed setting; even sporting legends who certainly learned a thing or two when they stepped up to the felt at the tournament.”

Beneficiary Bonus

Nicky Piper serves as the Corporate Partnerships Manager for City Hospice and he thanked Grosvenor Casino Cardiff for ‘generously hosting’ the City Hospice Celebrity Poker Night.

Piper went on to disclose that the prize pool had been donated by the casino, with his organization subsequently receiving all of the cash raised from the buy-ins.
