Customers of the popular Rendezvous Casino in Brighton have been shocked by the sudden closure of the popular venue.

The casino notified customers via its website with a notice stating: "We regret to inform you that, due to unforeseen circumstances, Rendezvous Casino in Brighton will be temporarily closed until further notice. Thank you for your understanding as we explore opportunities for reopening."

The venue sells itself as a Las Vegas-style casino with a range of casino games and a poker room. It offers various gaming options, along with dining and entertainment.

It is unclear as to why the Brighton casino destination has suddenly closed but it is understood that they had problems with a lift being out of order earlier this year.

The casino has had a staple presence at the Brighton Marina since 2003, and it forms part of the largest casino complex in the UK.

The casino industry will be hoping that this is not a trend for 2025 for land-based casinos.

Closures May Reflect Broader Challenges for Casinos

In December 2024 the Rainbow Casino, a gambling venue in Bristol's city centre closed, leaving patrons and staff in shock. A notice posted outside the premises stated: “Dear customers, we regret to inform you that Rainbow Casino is ceasing operations on Tuesday at midnight.”

The closure may reflect broader challenges facing the UK’s casino industry as they come to terms with tougher regulations and a statutory levy.

Michael Dugher, chair of the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), commented, “Too many casinos have unfortunately closed in recent years because successive administrations have failed to bring about the changes, we needed to protect jobs and growth.”

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
