A Hull bingo regular has walked away £50,000 richer after hitting the jackpot during the National Bingo Game at Mecca Bingo on Clough Road.
The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, struck gold on Saturday, 27 September, by completing a full house within the first 16 numbers called, the rare trigger that unlocks the top national jackpot.
Caller Sophie Marriott, who has worked at Mecca Bingo Hull for six years, said the atmosphere in the room changed the instant the player shouted “house.”
“The winner was marking off the numbers on a paper ticket and when she shouted out to claim on the sixteenth number, my heart was going ten to the dozen,” Marriott said.
“We checked her ticket and when I confirmed it was correct, the room was filled with excitement.”
Applause erupted as regulars and newcomers celebrated the win.
“I was so thrilled for her, I actually felt quite emotional. Everyone was clapping; it was beautiful,” she added.
The winner, who was enjoying a night out with friends, left the hall briefly to call her husband and share the news.
“She just couldn’t believe it,” Marriott said.
“I’ve been working at Mecca Bingo for six years, and this is the biggest win I’ve ever announced.”
Marriott described the victory as one of the highlights of her career, saying she loves her job because of the community atmosphere at the venue. “Each day is different. I get to see regular faces and new people each week, it’s the customers who make it special,” she said.
The National Bingo Game is played twice daily across Britain at participating clubs, offering local and national prizes. To win the national jackpot, a player must achieve a full house within 16 numbers, odds estimated at about one in 43,000 games, according to the National Bingo Game Association.
The game runs 364 days a year, with jackpot tiers ranging up to £50,000 depending on the number of calls made.
This Hull win follows a series of major bingo payouts across the UK in 2025. In March, a player at Buzz Bingo in Sunderland scooped a £50,000 jackpot, and in July, another Mecca customer in Blackpool claimed £30,000 in the same national game.
The National Bingo Game’s official site notes that more than £1 billion in prize money has been paid out since the game began in 1986.

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
