Buzz Bingo's Basildon club is reopening this weekend following a full refurbishment, with a Grand Reveal event on Saturday 25 April headlining more than £26,500 in prize money across two days of live entertainment. The venue on Southernhay has been closed for the works and will welcome back members, and new visitors, from this Saturday.
The interior has been overhauled from the ground up. Changes include a redesigned lounge area, updated décor throughout, and a new bar officially named The New Town Tap. A mural wall featuring local Basildon landmarks has also been installed, reflecting the operator's stated commitment to rooting each venue in its local community.
The reopening is open to Buzz Bingo members. Existing members at the Basildon club will be the first to experience the new layout, while the event is also being positioned as an entry point for new members in the area.
The Basildon relaunch is not a one-off. It is an early visible output of a £25 million national investment programme Buzz Bingo is rolling out across its estate over the coming years. That scale of capital commitment signals that the operator is backing a long-term recovery in bingo, not simply maintaining ageing venues, but actively repositioning the format for a broader audience.
The prize weekend runs across two days. On Saturday 25 April, members can play for ten £1,000 Full House prizes. Sunday 26 April offers 27 prizes of £500 alongside three further £1,000 Full House prizes. Both evenings will feature live music and entertainment, with the operator promising additional surprises throughout.
Chris Perkin, General Manager at Buzz Bingo Basildon, said:
“The club has undergone an amazing transformation, and we’re so excited to share our new look with both familiar faces and new members. Our new bar ‘The New Town Tap’ is a very welcome addition to the club, and we know our customers will love the stylish new feel of the whole club. The response to the revamped décor and our lounge area so far has been amazing. It’s the bingo we all know and love but with added sparkle!
“This is a place for the Basildon community, and we can’t wait to create new winning memories in our beautiful new club, starting with over £26,500 to be won over the weekend. It’s going to be incredible.”
Stevie Shaves, Chief Operating Officer at Buzz Bingo, commented: “This transformation of our Basildon club underscores Buzz Bingo’s commitment to providing the best bingo and entertainment experiences in the world, and we're investing £25m into our venues over the next few years. Bingo is a beloved British pastime, and we're seeing a fantastic comeback, particularly with the Gen Z crowd, who are discovering it as a popular, great-value night out.
"Buzz Bingo is leading that revival by blending the classic elements everyone loves with modern features like our immersive bingo experiences, retro inspired lounges and locally themed decor. We encourage everyone to come down and see the new club - it truly is back and better than ever.”
The Basildon refurbishment is designed as a template for the new approach. With the £25m rollout ongoing, Saturday's reopening will be an early indicator of whether the revamped format can build lasting local audiences at scale.

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
