Age and Eligibility Requirements for Alberta Online Casinos

You must be 18 or older to gamble at an online casino in Alberta. That is the provincial age of majority under the framework the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) commission uses to regulate online gambling. Age is not the only rule, though. You also need to meet Alberta location and identity checks before you can play, and some brands set a higher minimum age of their own. What is the legal gambling age in Alberta?
Alberta's minimum age for online casino play is 18. This matches the provincial age of majority and applies across AGLC-regulated sites. The same 18+ rule covers casino games, online slots, and sports betting offered through registered operators.

Brand-level age requirements
Some operators set their own minimum age above the provincial rule. Caesars applies a 21+ minimum for its accounts, which is stricter than Alberta's 18+ requirement.
Where a brand sets a higher minimum, that stricter age applies to your account, even though Alberta law allows play from 18. If you plan to use a specific site, check that operator's terms for its own age policy.
Caesars is the only brand-level exception we have confirmed at the time of writing.
Alberta residency and location requirements
Age is only part of eligibility. To use an AGLC-registered online casino, you also need to meet Alberta's location requirement. Access is limited to players connecting from within the province.
Operators run location checks to confirm this before allowing play. That check is separate from your age verification. Alberta's regulated online casino market launched on July 13, 2026, and these eligibility rules apply

Identity verification (KYC) at sign-up
Registered operators must verify your identity before your account is fully active. This process is often called Know Your Customer, or KYC. It confirms your age, your identity, and your eligibility to play.
At sign-up you are typically asked to provide:
- Your full legal name and date of birth
- Your residential address in Alberta
- A government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's licence or passport
- Additional documents if the operator needs to confirm your details
If your information cannot be matched, the operator may request more documents before it lets you deposit or withdraw.
Signing up from outside Alberta
AGLC-registered online casinos are intended for players located in Alberta. If you try to sign up or log in from outside the province, the operator's location check is designed to block access.
Attempting to bypass these checks, including hiding your location, goes against operator terms and the rules of the regulated market. Players outside Alberta are not covered by the province's player protections.
How Alberta compares to Ontario
Each Canadian province sets its own gambling age. Alberta uses 18, in line with its age of majority. Ontario, the other major regulated online casino market in Canada, requires players to be 19 or older for operators registered with iGaming Ontario.
If you have played in Ontario's regulated market, do not assume the same age applies in Alberta, or the reverse. Always check the rules for the province where you are playing.
