The Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) is the regulator. It handles operator due diligence, sets the rules operators must follow, certifies their technology, and enforces compliance. Every company that wants to offer online gambling in Alberta has to register with the AGLC first.

The Alberta iGaming Corporation is the provincial body that signs commercial operating agreements with registered operators. An operator can only go live once it has cleared AGLC registration and finalized that agreement. This structure was created by the iGaming Alberta Act, the provincial law that established the regulated market.

From July 13, registered private operators can begin accepting real money deposits and wagers from players in Alberta. To go live, each operator must have completed AGLC registration and signed its commercial agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation.

July 13 is also the deadline the AGLC has set for operators to submit completed applications and pay the required fees. Operators that were active in the unregulated market are expected to either be licensed by then or stop offering services to Alberta players, though the AGLC has indicated some applicants may receive an extension.
