When I was a child, a camp leader once asked me what I wanted to do when I grew up. I enthusiastically, if somewhat naively, replied that I wanted to own a casino. And while I never quite achieved that lofty ambition, I’ve been fortunate to build a career that’s allowed me to immerse myself in the world of casinos and gaming. As a journalist, writer and editor, I’ve had the opportunity to explore the industry in depth, working with some of its biggest brands while maintaining a strong focus on Canada and North America.
At Casinos.com, my role is all about making sure Canadians feel reassured and ready to enjoy themselves at land-based and online casinos. I keep a close eye on industry trends and developments, delivering national and provincial news stories that keep readers informed about legislative updates, new market entrants and more. Believing a localized experience is of utmost importance, I point out what brands are perfect for players in Canada, and where others fall short.
As both a gambler and an industry insider, I can view the world of online casinos from every possible angle. I understand what players want, and I understand what operators and lawmakers alike must do to meet those needs. I approach every aspect of my role with player welfare at the forefront of my mind.
As more Canadian provinces move toward legalization, I’m ready and willing to make sense of complex gaming laws and cut through promotional fluff to connect players with the best possible brands.
Born in the early 90s, I considered myself lucky to have hit adolescence pretty much smack bang in the middle of the Third Golden Age of Television. And while I won't win any awards for originality, my favourite shows include the likes of The Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad and Desperate Housewives (I can explain the last one).
I’ve also been a big pro wrestling fan since childhood, so I try to catch up on WWE, AEW and TNA when possible, both on tv and in person. I’ve been to many PPVs in my time, including WrestleMania XL and All In.
For movies, I will pretty much watch anything with either Affleck brother in it, but I particularly enjoy Manchester by the Sea, Gone Baby Gone, Good Will Hunting, The Town and Argo.
When I’m not writing or thinking about casinos, you can usually find me in a swimming pool — either doing laps or playing water polo with my local team, affectionately known as the Leeches. (There’s a story behind the name, and it has nothing to do with sucking.)
I first learned to play Texas Hold’em in college, and although I won’t be contending for a bracelet anytime soon, my love for its blend of skill, strategy, psychology and luck has kept me playing regularly over the years. My favourite hand is a pair of ducks, which I’ve used to crack slow-played Aces on more than one occasion.
Another college favourite of mine was the DVD game version of Deal or No Deal, which my roommates and I would play endlessly instead of going to class. After the disc eventually wore out and started skipping, and after we all graduated and moved out, I struggled to find that same immersive thrill online. That is, until Deal or No Deal Live launched at online casinos.
