Alberta's regulated online casino market launches on July 13, 2026. From that date, only operators registered with the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) can legally offer online casino play to Alberta residents.  If you want to weigh up more options, our roundup of the best online casinos in Alberta is a good place to start.

This guide shows you how to confirm for yourself whether a casino is actually registered, using the AGLC's own published records rather than a logo, a badge or an advertisement.

For the wider picture on legality, see our guide to whether online gambling is legal in Alberta.

Why checking for yourself matters

A registered operator is bound by AGLC rules, including responsible gambling requirements and player protections. An unregistered site is not. Confirming registration before you deposit is the single most reliable way to know an online casino is operating legally in the province.

A logo, a "licensed" claim on a website, or an advertisement is not proof. The only reliable source is the AGLC's own published record, which you can check in a couple of minutes.

Where the AGLC publishes its operator list

The AGLC publishes its list of registered iGaming companies on its official iGaming page. The document is titled "Gaming Registrations" and is often referred to as the iGaming Registrants list.

It is a dated PDF, not a search box, and the AGLC updates it regularly. It lists legal entities grouped by registration category.

For a player, the section that matters is the one headed "iGaming - Operator", which covers consumer-facing casino and sportsbook brands. The other categories cover business suppliers and platform providers, not casinos you would play at.

How to check the registry, step by step

  1. Go to the AGLC iGaming page
  2. Open the current Gaming Registrations (iGaming Registrants) document. It opens as a PDF.
  3. Find the heading "iGaming - Operator". This is the section listing consumer casino and sportsbook brands.
  4. Search for the operator. Use your browser or PDF search (Ctrl+F on Windows, Cmd+F on Mac). Many brands are listed under a legal company name with an "o/a" ("operating as") note. For example, bet365 appears under "Hillside (International Gaming) ENC o/a bet365". If the brand name alone returns nothing, try the company name.
  5. Confirm the entry sits under "iGaming - Operator" and not under a supplier or platform-provider heading. A match in the wrong category does not mean the brand is a registered casino.
  6. Note the date printed on the document. Because the list is updated regularly, a match on an older saved copy may be out of date

What registration status means

Appearing on the AGLC list means the operator has completed regulatory registration with the AGLC. Registration on its own does not mean the operator can accept your deposits yet.

Before launch, registered operators are permitted to advertise and let you pre-register an account, but they cannot accept deposits or bets until the market goes live. Reaching full launch involves two steps: registration with the AGLC, followed by a commercial agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC). The AiGC is expected to publish its approved operator list to coincide with the July 13, 2026 launch.

For a fuller explanation of how these stages differ, see our guide to what registration status means.

What to do if an operator is not listed

If a casino does not appear under the "iGaming - Operator" heading, it has not completed AGLC registration. That does not automatically make it a bad actor, but it does mean the operator is not part of the AGLC-regulated system.

Using an unregistered operator means you are not covered by AGLC player protections. The safeguards that apply to registered operators, such as responsible gambling tools and the AGLC's oversight of complaints and standards, are not guaranteed with a site the regulator does not oversee. The practical takeaway is simple: if you cannot find an operator on the AGLC list, treat that as a reason to check further before depositing.

Registration status can change

The AGLC updates its list regularly, and an operator's status can change between updates.

Always check the current version of the AGLC document directly rather than relying on a third-party list, an old screenshot, or an article that may quote an earlier count.

That includes our own pages: casinos.com aims to keep its information current, but the AGLC's published record is the definitive source. When money is involved, confirm the operator against the live AGLC list before you deposit.
