In an electrifying atmosphere at the World Darts Championship, 880 180s have been thrown, alongside two remarkable nine-darters from Christian Kist and Damon Heta.

Heta's achievement also triggered a generous £180,000 bonus from Paddy Power, the online casino and sports betting giant, through their campaign hashtag #TheBIGGER180 in conjunction with Prostate Cancer UK.

Mauro from Switzerland was the fortunate fan to receive £60,000 from this bonus, and his delighted reaction speaks volumes about the excitement generated.

Reflecting on the moment, Laura, CEO of Paddy Power, expressed, “After Christian Kist set the ball rolling, we experienced a mix of tension and excitement, especially with 3,000 fans in the arena when Damon Heta made his mark—contributing to a £60,000 donation for Prostate Cancer UK.”

Paddy Power Pledges £1 Million for Prostate Cancer

This initiative is part of a broader effort, with Paddy Power pledging a staggering £1 million to support hashtag #TRANSFORM, the most ambitious trial for prostate cancer screening to date.

There's a significant opportunity within the darts community for raising awareness and funds. The campaign empowers men by investing in groundbreaking research aimed at navigating prostate cancer.

In 2023-2024, the initiative focused on shaping health practices, enabling men to comprehend their risks, and providing support tailored to their choices.

“Together, we can envision a world where no man succumbs to prostate cancer,” Laura added. "The online risk checker plays a vital role in prompting men to proactively assess their health."

President of Professional Darts Corporation Lends His Support to Big 180

Barry Hearn, President of the Professional Darts Corporation, stands as a testament to this campaign, sharing that he underwent successful prostate surgery after being inspired by the BIG 180 initiative launched last year by Paddy Power.

"Our focus is not just on numbers in darts," Laura emphasized, "but also on the pressing statistics surrounding prostate health. With 1 in 8 men affected by prostate cancer, it's crucial that awareness spreads regarding personal risk factors."

Since the start of the BIGGER 180 campaign, over 85,000 individuals have completed the online risk checker, with more than 75 percent identified as high risk, showcasing the campaign's significant impact within the darts community.

As the competition continues, this powerful partnership between darts and health awareness illustrates how sports can make remarkable contributions beyond the game itself.

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
