Local Casinos Found in Toronto

Toronto has no casinos within its city limits, but gamblers are not excluded entirely with the surrounding area boasts some of the best casinos in Canada.

Certainly, if you're looking in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), you are unlikely to be disappointed about the gambling options on offer.

Toronto Land Based Casino Operators

Toronto feels like a growing and emerging gambling market more than an established one, but that growth is being supercharged by some big-time operators coming into the region. They include:

  • Woodbine Entertainment Group: WEG, who were previously known as the Ontario Jockey Club, operate two horse racing tracks and a casino in the GTA.
  • Great Canadian Casinos: A very prominent chain of casinos in Canada, including a flagship resort in Ontario.
  • Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment: A major operator in the casino industry who recently became the operators of the Niagra Gaming Bundle in Canada.

Toronto Casino Resorts

The Greater Toronto Area has a huge number of casinos, gambling halls, and resorts to choose from, including:

  • Dolphin Gaming Toronto - There are no table games and not many slots - well, 'Tap n Play machines' - so hardened gamblers may feel Dolphin Gaming has little for them. If Bingo is your thing, though, you'll be very satisfied.
  • Great Canadian Casino - Toronto's brand new sprawling 328,000 square feet behemoth with nearly 5,000 sot machines.

More Than Gambling

Toronto is known as a destination city regardless of any potential gambling experiences and with very good reasons.

  • Geography: The Greater Toronto Area covers the City of Toronto itself and several surrounding regions, including Durham, Halton, Peel, and York. It covers a vast area of approximately 7,000 square kilometres along the northwestern shore of Lake Ontario.
  • Niagara Falls: The iconic and incredible Niagara Falls is just a two-hour drive from Toronto itself, meaning a bucket list attraction is very close by.
  • Centre for culture: The GTA is rich in arts and culture, with outstanding museums, galleries, theatres, music venues, and festivals.

Important Considerations

Unlike many other provinces in Canada where you have to be 18 or older to gamble, Ontario makes you wait until you are 19.

Some casinos and resorts still insist on a minimum age of 21 for guests, though, so be sure to check the requirements before you plan a trip.
