In the Ontario gambling market, three main operators share all land-based casinos, each licensed and regulated by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).
One of Canada's largest gaming companies, Great Canadian operates 12 casino destinations across Ontario, including Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto, Pickering Casino Resort, the Shorelines chain and Great Blue Heron Casino.
Founded in 1992, Gateway runs more than a dozen Ontario properties under several brand names including Cascades, Starlight and Playtime, and also manages Casino Rama Resort on behalf of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation.
The US operator has been present in Ontario since the mid-1990s, running Caesars Windsor on the Windsor–Detroit border.
Ontario's 25 licensed venues are spread across the province, from Windsor in the southwest to Niagara Falls in the southeast and as far north as Thunder Bay. The mix includes large full-service resort casinos, mid-sized entertainment venues and smaller community properties. Each suited to a different type of visit.
If you can't make it to a physical venue, Ontario online casinos are another option. You don't need to be a resident to play, as long as you're inside province boarders you're allowed to sign-up and gamble online.
These are Ontario's largest casinos, offering full-scale gaming floors, hotel accommodation, multiple dining venues, entertainment spaces, and in most cases a sportsbook and poker room.
Opened in 2023, Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto is currently the largest casino resort in Canada by gaming floor size. Located on the grounds of Woodbine Racetrack in Etobicoke, a few minutes from Toronto Pearson Airport, the $1 billion facility spans 328,000 square feet and houses over 4,800 slots and 175 live table games.
A 30-table poker room on the second floor of the Grandstand Casino is open 24/7, offering Limit and No-Limit Texas Hold'Em with a Bad Beat Jackpot. Dedicated High Limit Slots and Table Games rooms opened in late 2024. The resort includes a 400-room hotel with racetrack views and several dining options including Copperhorn Meet House steakhouse.
The Theatre hosts music and comedy events throughout the year. The Great Canadian Rewards loyalty programme allows guests to earn points redeemable for free play and dining across all Ontario Great Canadian properties.
Opened in phases between 2021 and 2023, Pickering Casino Resort is located just east of Toronto off Highway 401, on the shoreline of Lake Ontario.
The $500 million property has a 96,000-square-foot gaming floor with over 2,200 slots, 90+ live table games and 50+ electronic table games. In late 2025, an 18-table poker room opened on the third floor of the hotel, featuring 16 standard tables and two private high-stakes tables with a dedicated bar and tableside food service.
Sports betting is available through the Great Canadian Sportsbook lounge, with multiple kiosks and screens showing major sporting events. The 275-room hotel offers city and lake views and amenities including a pool and fitness centre.
The Arena is a 2,500-seat entertainment venue hosting concerts, theatre and live sports. Six on-site restaurants cover a range of dining styles.
Caesars Windsor opened in the mid-1990s as the first permanent brick-and-mortar casino in Ontario. Located right on the Windsor–Detroit border overlooking the Detroit River, it draws visitors from both sides of the border.
The gaming floor has over 1,700 slots, 85 live dealer tables, a dedicated poker room and e-gaming terminals. Table limits here are the highest in Ontario, up to $15,000 on baccarat, $25,000 on blackjack, and $50,000 on roulette, though lower-limit tables and penny slots are also available for budget players. The poker room runs tournaments on Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons.
The Legends Sports Bar contains a Caesars Sportsbook with screens showing major sporting events. Nero's Steakhouse is the main dining option for a sit-down meal, while the Ariius nightclub, Cosmos Lounge and VU Bar offer evening entertainment. The 5,000-seat Colosseum hosts regular live events.
The 700-room hotel is split between the Augustus Tower (family-friendly) and the adult-only Forum Tower.
Niagara Fallsview is one of the largest casino resorts in Canada, situated close to the Horseshoe Falls in Niagara Falls.
The property covers over 200,000 square feet of gaming space and includes 3,500+ slots, 130 table games, a Level 2 poker room open daily from 12pm to 4am, three high-limit gaming areas, 20+ dining options, a nightclub, a swimming pool, 370+ hotel rooms and 30,000 square feet of convention space.
The Salon Privé high-limit area offers five-figure table betting. The Sapphire Room and High Limit Slots Room cater to high-stakes slot players. Sports betting is available through 20+ kiosks in the Overtime Sports Lounge.
The OLG Stage is a 5,000-seat theatre that regularly hosts major touring acts, while the Avalon Theatre is a smaller, more intimate venue.
Located three minutes from Fallsview, Casino Niagara operates as a more compact alternative within the Niagara tourism area.
At 95,000 square feet, the casino floor houses over 1,300 slots and video poker machines (penny to $5 denominations) and 30 electronic gaming terminals. The dealer-dealt tables here are connected to the live dealer tables at Fallsview Casino, a feature unique to this pairing in Canada.
Casino Niagara is the poker option in Niagara, with 18 dedicated tables running cash games and tournaments daily from noon to 3:45am. Limits range from $1/$3 NL Texas Hold'Em up to $50/$100, with PLO going to $500/$1,000, the highest poker limits available in Ontario.
Sports betting is available through 15 kiosks in the LEV2L Sports Bar.
Casino Rama Resort sits on the Rama First Nation reserve beside Lake Couchiching, roughly 90 minutes north of Toronto. It is Ontario's only First Nations commercial casino, operated by Gateway Casinos & Entertainment on behalf of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation.
The resort covers 192,000 square feet and includes over 1,600 slots, 43 gaming tables, and nine poker tables. There is a dedicated high-limit gaming area. Eight dining options are on-site, including MATCH Eatery & Public House (opened 2024) and Chow Lucky Noodle Bar.
The 300-room all-suite hotel has a spa, health club, steam rooms, sauna, and indoor saltwater pool. The 5,000-seat Entertainment Centre hosts live music and entertainment events throughout the year. The remote location means public transport access is limited, so most visitors drive or arrive by coach.
Ontario also has a wide range of mid-sized and community casinos that offer a more local, less resort-oriented experience. These venues typically have a single gaming floor with slots and table games, one or two dining options, and an entertainment area or lounge. They are well suited to shorter visits and local players.
Great Blue Heron Casino & Hotel (Port Perry) has 500+ slots, live table games, 24-hour electronic gaming and an adjacent hotel overlooking Lake Scugog. Its Bad Beat Jackpot is pooled with Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto and Elements Casino Brantford.
Gateway Casinos Innisfil (south of Barrie) has 1,000+ slots and 22+ table games, including a higher-stakes slots area and the Getaway Restaurant.
Shorelines Casino Thousand Islands (Thousand Islands region) has 450+ slots and 14 live table games, with a notably varied table game selection including Spanish 21, EZ Squeeze Baccarat, High Card Flush and Let It Ride.
Starlight Casino Point Edward (St. Clair River, near Sarnia) has 450+ slots and 27 live table games with a range of betting limits, and a MATCH Eatery & Public House on-site.
Elements Casino Brantford (Brantford) is a mid-sized property with a dedicated poker room and a regular tournament schedule covering multiple formats and buy-in levels.
Elements Casino Flamboro (Dundas, Hamilton area) is situated at Flamboro Downs harness racing track and offers slots, table games and a poker room alongside live Standardbred racing.
Elements Casino Mohawk (Milton) is attached to Woodbine Mohawk Park and offers slots and table games alongside live Standardbred racing five nights a week.
Elements Casino Grand River (Elora) is located at Grand River Raceway and offers slots and table games alongside live harness racing.
Cascades Casino North Bay (North Bay) has 270+ slots and six live table games, with a MATCH Eatery & Public House on-site.
Gateway Casinos Thunder Bay has 450 slots, live table games, e-tables and a Getaway Restaurant.
Gateway Casinos Sudbury (approximately 20 minutes from downtown Sudbury) offers slots, electronic games and table games with casual dining.
Gateway Casinos Sault Ste. Marie (downtown Sault Ste. Marie) has been in operation for 25 years and offers slots and table games.
Shorelines Casino Belleville (Belleville), Shorelines Casino Peterborough (Peterborough, with a buffet restaurant) and Shorelines Casino Kawartha Downs (Fraserville, with live harness racing) round out the Shorelines chain.
Ontario has a well-established live poker scene, with dedicated rooms spread across the province. Players must be 19 or older to participate.
