Set Sail for Casino Thrills: Discover the Best Cruises for Gamblers

From floating slot machines to blackjack tournaments with ocean views, casino cruises blend the thrill of gaming with the luxury of travel. Whether you’re a seasoned gambler or just casino-curious, these voyages offer unique onboard experiences that rival many land-based casinos.

It can be difficult to know where to start but we have put together some pointers to help you decide what floats your boat.

Royal Caribbean’s Oasis-Class: Las Vegas on Sea

Royal Caribbean has two cruise ships that offer a casino. The Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas are the flagships of the brand’s 26-ship fleet. Each one features a sprawling onboard casino designed to mirror the glitz and variety of Las Vegas.

Both ships offer a full spectrum of casino games, everything from traditional slots to live-dealer table games like roulette and blackjack. The casino floor is open to adults aged 18 and older (21 in U.S. waters) and is styled for serious players and casual dabblers alike.

“They’re dubbed a ‘mini Vegas at sea’ for a reason,” Royal Caribbean said in promotional materials. “Guests can expect all the excitement of land-based casinos while enjoying world-class amenities onboard.”

Norwegian Epic: A Showstopper at Sea

Scandinavia has had a long history of offering cruises and is more often the destination for many. Norway’s offering is the Norwegian Epic, which measures 1,081 feet, more than ample room to house the casino. The Epic’s Casino offers a plush atmosphere with hundreds of slot machines and a wide selection of table games.

Beyond gaming, passengers can enjoy nightly performances by Cirque Dreams & Dinner, an exclusive show by Cirque du Soleil.

Queen Mary II: Monte Carlo Elegance in the Atlantic

There is something alluring in the name of Cunard Line’s Queen Mary II. It oozes pomp and history and brings old-world glamour to its onboard Empire Casino. While smaller than other ships’ gaming halls, it offers 100 slot machines and 12 tables, including Three Card Poker and Caribbean Stud.

Think Monte Carlo rather than Las Vegas, a more intimate and quieter gaming experience.

Royal Princess: Big Ship, Big Jackpots

Royal Princess is a giant of a cruise ship. It features a lively casino floor stocked with progressive jackpot slots, bingo, and classic table games.

Frequent players can rack up perks via the Cruise Card loyalty programme, including priority access, tournament invites, and complimentary extras like spa treatments or exclusive dinners.

Celebrity Cruises: High-End Gaming and Exclusive Rewards

Celebrity Cruises are known for luxury, and their casino offerings don’t disappoint. Ships like Celebrity Reflection and Celebrity Equinox feature Fortune Casinos, equipped with everything from Texas Hold’em to digital slot machines.

Passengers can also join the Blue-Chip Club; a loyalty programme linked with MGM Resorts that extends benefits to land-based properties.

What to Know Before You Board

Age requirements vary by destination. For European cruises, the minimum casino age is typically 18. Caribbean sailings usually require guests to be at least 21.

Games include slots, roulette, blackjack, poker, and more. While the variety may not match Vegas or Macau, the selection is robust enough to satisfy most players.

Tournaments are a frequent highlight. Expect to see leaderboard competitions in blackjack or slots, often with exclusive prizes for top players.

Rewards can be generous. High-stakes players may qualify for perks like complimentary drinks, spa credits, or discounts on future sailings. Programmes are often tiered and tracked via your onboard cruise card.

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
