New Self Assessment Tool for Players. (Image: MGA)
Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has launched a new self-assessment tool designed to help players better understand their gambling habits and make informed choices about how they play.
Built in collaboration with local support organisations, the short, anonymous questionnaire invites users to answer a series of reflective questions about their gambling behaviour. Once completed, participants receive guidance tailored to their responses, along with links to professional help services if needed.
Available in English and Maltese, the tool aims to make self-reflection around gambling at land-based and online casinos simple, private, and free from judgment. It’s part of MGA's broader commitment to promoting safer play and ensuring that gaming remains a form of entertainment, not a source of harm.
For players, the tool offers a safe space to take stock of their habits without fear of stigma or exposure. By completing the questionnaire, users can spot early signs of risky behaviour, such as spending more than intended or chasing losses, and learn where to find help if needed. The process takes only a few minutes and provides an instant overview of whether gambling is staying within healthy limits.
For licensed operators, the introduction of this tool reinforces industry efforts toward responsible gambling compliance. Regulators like the MGA and the UK Gambling Commission have placed increasing emphasis on proactive player protection.
MGA's initiative supports these standards by raising awareness and offering a practical, early intervention resource that benefits both players and platforms.
This launch aligns with the growing global movement toward ethical gambling, where transparency and player well-being sit at the core of the gaming experience.

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
