Ontario Casino Revenue Hits New Record as Player Accounts Top 1.4 Million

Ontario’s regulated online casino revenue set a record in September, even as casino wagering slipped from August’s all-time-high share of the market.

Operators’ non-adjusted gross gaming revenue (NAGGR) from casino products reached $340.8 million, up 1% from August’s $336.3 million, according to iGaming Ontario’s monthly market performance report.

NAGGR is the amount players wagered minus what they won, before operators subtract costs.

In simple terms, wagers are the total amount bet, and revenue is the slice operators keep.

The $340.8 million is the highest monthly casino revenue since the regulated market launched in April 2022.

Players wagered $8.504 billion on casino games, including slots, table games and bingo, down 3% from August’s $8.776 billion.

That pulled casino's share of total wagers to 88% from the record 90% it claimed in August.

In September, operators kept about $4 for every $100 wagered on casino games.

Ontario online casino products accounted for 82% of the market’s total revenue, down from 85% in August.

Accounts Hit a Record as Betting Rebounds

Active player accounts, meaning accounts that placed a wager during the month, rose 17% to 1.413 million, the most the market has recorded in a single month.

That is not a count of individual players, since one person can hold accounts with several operators.

The previous high was 1.365 million in July.

Average revenue per active account fell 10% to $295, from $328 in August.

Casinos.com calculates that accounts are up 20% from September 2025’s 1.177 million, while casino revenue is up 23% from $277.8 million a year earlier.

Total wagers across all products came to $9.708 billion, essentially unchanged from August’s $9.740 billion and below July’s record $9.884 billion.

Across casino, betting and poker, total revenue rose 5% to $416.3 million.

Betting handle, the total amount wagered on sports, esports and other bets, jumped 27% to $1.074 billion, lifting its share of total wagers to 11% from 9%.

Betting revenue also rose 27%, to $69.1 million, for a 17% share of the market’s total revenue.

Peer-to-peer poker wagers increased 7% to $130 million, and poker revenue climbed 14% to $6.4 million.

How Alberta Compares

Alberta’s regulated iGaming market generated $56.6 million in NAGGR in September, according to the Alberta iGaming Corporation’s first market performance report.

Casinos.com calculates that is about 14% of Ontario’s $416.3 million for the month.

Alberta’s 388,585 active player accounts equal about 28% of Ontario’s 1.413 million, and its $1.277 billion in wagers is about 13% of Ontario’s $9.708 billion.

Alberta’s market opened July 13, while Ontario’s launched in April 2022. The two regulators define and report some measures differently, so the comparison is approximate.

iGaming Ontario’s October figures are expected around the end of November.
