Grosvenor Casino Bolton has completed a £3 million refurbishment and will reopen to the public on 27 April, with significant upgrades across the venue including what the operator describes as the first outdoor gaming terrace at any casino in the North West.

The investment transforms the Bolton site into a 24-hour gaming and entertainment venue, with the operator saying it is positioned to serve both regular casino customers and broader leisure audiences looking for an evening out.
The overhaul covers the full venue, which sits next door to Bolton Market and is a four-minute walk from Bolton's main train and bus stations.
Key additions include a new external gaming terrace designed for year-round use, fitted with heating, integrated sound, a widescreen TV and slot machines. The casino now also carries 80 slot machines, claimed to be the largest slots offering in the North West, along with seven-days-a-week poker events and live sport screens throughout the site.

The venue retains two bars, private event space and more than 300 parking spaces. No membership is required to enter.
The refurbishment directly affects customers at the Bolton site, which draws from the wider Greater Manchester and Lancashire area. The investment will also create 20 new jobs at the venue, focused on customer experience roles, making it relevant to local jobseekers as well as players.
The £3 million investment signals continued operator confidence in physical casino venues at a time when the UK gambling industry is navigating significant regulatory change under the Gambling Act review. For Bolton, it represents a substantial leisure investment in the town centre, with the venue's proximity to public transport and the market positioning it as part of the broader night-time economy rather than a standalone gambling destination.

The outdoor gaming terrace is also a genuine first for the region, a format more commonly associated with resort casinos, and may influence how other operators approach venue design in the North West.
Casinos.com contacted Bolton City Council: A spokesperson said that they were in the pre-election period of restricted publicity so very limited in terms of what they can comment on publicly until after May 7th.
A week of launch celebrations runs from 27 April. The programme includes a Vegas-themed party on Friday 1 May, featuring Dolly Parton and Shania Twain tribute acts, live acoustic music and a magician. The following evening, Saturday 2 May, hosts a Magic at the Movies Night with a Dirty Dancing versus Grease show.

Further events during the week include a Sunday prize draw and a free business networking event on Tuesday, aimed at local companies.
Paul Baines, General Manager at Grosvenor Casino Bolton, said:
"This is a major investment in creating a modern gaming venue which will elevate the experience for everyone, whether you're a player or a group of friends looking for a great night out. We're looking forward to welcoming both our regular customers and people visiting for the first time."
Grosvenor Casinos, part of the Rank Group, operates one of the largest networks of licensed casinos in the UK. The Bolton refurbishment is one of a number of site investments the group has made in recent years as it looks to reposition its venues as broader leisure and entertainment destinations, not solely gambling spaces. The Bolton site's emphasis on live events, dining and social spaces reflects that wider strategic direction across the estate.

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
