The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) is officially on the hunt for its next chair, with the position now open for applications ahead of a fast-approaching deadline of 13 March 2026.
The role, paying £59,950 per year for a two-day weekly commitment, is one of the most high-profile non-executive positions in British public life. The successful candidate will help shape a safer, fairer gambling industry as the UKGC implements sweeping changes outlined in the Gambling Act Review White Paper.
The Gambling Commission (UKGC) regulates commercial gambling in Great Britain, including online casinos, betting, and the National Lottery.
In partnership with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), the new chair will be instrumental in pushing through long-anticipated reforms designed to modernise gambling regulation in the digital age.
The job advert frames the appointment as a “once-in-a-generation opportunity” to lead transformation at the UK’s top gambling watchdog. The incoming chair will play a central role in executing the government’s vision: reducing gambling-related harm, protecting vulnerable people and children, and ensuring a regulatory framework that enables economic growth.
The UKGC is seeking a “strategic leader” with a strong grasp of corporate governance and the ability to navigate an often politically charged and emotive policy space.
Candidates must show “impartial and independent judgment,” according to the official listing, as well as demonstrate sound political instincts and excellent communication skills. Commercial experience in regulated industries is also considered a plus.
The successful applicant will be expected to maintain the Commission’s independence while building effective working relationships with government, industry and advocacy groups.

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
