A new apprenticeship aimed at bolstering compliance in the UK gambling sector was officially launched this week at The Hippodrome Casino. Developed by Better Change (Gibraltar) Ltd, the Level 4 Regulatory Compliance Officer Apprenticeship is tailored to professionals working across safer gambling, risk, and regulatory roles.
The announcement marks what the company described as a “landmark day” in its mission to support a more sustainable gambling industry. The launch event, attended by representatives from the Betting and Gaming Council and other major stakeholders, showcased the industry’s growing commitment to formalised compliance training.
Speaking from the roof garden of the Hippodrome Casino Managing Director at Better Change said:
“We've got operators, we've got platform providers, we've got trade bodies such as the BGC, all joining us for the launch of the first of its kind apprenticeship in gambling. We're really looking forward to launching this. We want to create a sustainable industry based around positive play.”
According to Better Change, the apprenticeship will provide a structured route for professionals seeking to enhance their regulatory expertise. The first cohort is set to begin in October 2025.
“This apprenticeship is designed to support a range of roles within gambling operators, including but not limited to Safer Gambling, Risk, and Compliance,” Better Change stated on LinkedIn.
“We’re excited to help develop future leaders who will drive a more sustainable gambling industry.”
The program aligns with broader industry efforts to improve standards and promote “Positive Play,” a term Better Change uses to frame its responsible gambling initiatives. The course has received support from several operators and trade bodies as the sector continues to face scrutiny over player protection and regulatory compliance.

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
