Bally’s has relaunched its Newcastle casino at The Gate, marking the company’s first land-based casino in the UK and a higher-profile push into the British retail market. The venue, formerly operated as Aspers, reopened on Saturday, 14 March 2026 following refurbishment and rebranding after Bally’s acquired the site in 2025.
Bally’s is not just changing the name above the door. It is trying to turn the city-centre property into an all-in-one entertainment venue built around casino gaming, live sport, food, and events. Bally’s already had a UK presence through its online casino business, but Newcastle is its first brick-and-mortar casino in Britain.
The casino sits on the first floor of The Gate complex on Newgate Street, with another entrance on Stowell Street near Chinatown and St. James’ Park Metro. Bally’s says the site offers gaming, poker, bars, dining, and sports viewing under one roof. Current information on the venue’s official website says it opens from midday to 4 a.m. Monday through Thursday, then runs continuously from midday Friday to 4 a.m. Monday. Parking at The Gate car park is free for Bally Rewards members who meet the venue’s same-day visit conditions.

The relaunch was marked with a full opening-night programme, including a drinks reception, live music, learn-to-play gaming sessions, and a grand prize draw built around a Las Vegas trip or cash alternative.
The broader strategy is focused on sustaining footfall beyond opening weekend. Bally’s is promoting an ongoing calendar of offers and events, including poker jackpots, food-and-drink packages, and the ‘Grab a Grand’ promotion, which gives members a chance to win up to £1,000 on Saturday, 28 March 2026. Bally Rewards, the company’s loyalty programme, is free to join for adults 18 and over, with former Aspers World members transferred into the new scheme.

Bally’s is also tying the venue to the local market. A live Q&A event with former Newcastle United goalkeeper Shay Given is scheduled for Saturday, 21 March 2026, extending the relaunch into a broader programme of events linked to the city’s football audience.
David Tait, general manager of Bally’s Casino Newcastle, said:
“We’re incredibly proud to be bringing the Bally’s brand to Newcastle and re-launching our first UK flagship venue in such a vibrant city. Having overseen this amazing refurb, I can genuinely say it is phenomenal.”
The relaunch positions Newcastle as a test case for Bally’s UK land-based strategy, as operators look to combine gambling, hospitality, and live entertainment to drive in-person visits.

Most of my career was spent in teaching including at one of the UK’s top private schools. I left London in 2000 and set up home in Wales raising four beautiful children. I enrolled at University where I studied Photography and film and gained a Degree and subsequently a Masters Degree. In 2014 I helped launch a new local newspaper and managed to get front and back page as well as 6 filler pages on a weekly basis. I saw that journalism was changing and was a pioneer of hyperlocal news in Wales. In 2017 I started one of the first 24/7 free independent news sites for Wales. Having taken that to a successful business model I was keen for a new challenge. Joining the company is exciting for me especially as it is a new role in Europe. I am keen to establish myself and help others to do the same.
